The Chastening Of The Lord | Episode 13 | Holy Spirit

Look with me again at our main text here, Hebrews chapter 12.

I've gone over it multiple times, so I'm going to jump right in the middle of verse 7 here.

If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons.

For what son is there whom a father doesn't chasten? But if you are without chastising or chastening...

of which all have become partakers, then you're illegitimate and not sons.

Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us and we paid them respect.

Shall we not much more? readily be in subjection to the Father of Spirits, and live." The Father of Spirits.

Our earthly fathers chastened us in our flesh.

They chastened us after our flesh.

The heavenly Father is chastening us by His Spirit in our spirits.

in our inward man.

The chastening of the Lord is within, not without.

God's not, again, doing all these things He's accused of to chasten His people, to teach us or wake us up.

I've dealt with that and I don't want to go down that trail again here.

God is not from without chastening us, disciplining us, correcting us, rebuking us.

He's doing it from within by His Spirit in our spirit man.

That's where we sense the chastening of the Lord.

That's why if you're going to be carnal and you're just going to live after the flesh... you're not going to sense the chastening of the Lord.

You won't be enduring chastening.

You're going to have to endure the consequences of rebellion to God and resistance to God.

And so we are submitting to the Father now, heavenly Father of our spirits.

And that's what John 16, Jesus taught about the Holy Spirit.

This is the primary role of the Holy Spirit.

It's the Holy Spirit that convinces us of the right path.

It's the Holy Spirit that is teaching.
