### In this heartfelt Father's Day episode, I sit down with my longtime friend John Geerlings from Long Island—a devoted father and grandfather—to…
John GeerlingsGuestThis is Your Health First, and I always try to weasel the health and wellness angle on any topic that we bring up, including Father's Day.
So I grew up in a family, and I talk about this a lot with both my mom and dad, but my dad was a figure that really made sure, and my mom as well, that we were healthy.
Now, they were both in health care, medical knowledge, and so that seeped into conversation around the table and discussions and myself and my sister went into health care.
But I look back and I say that with the trouble or potential trouble we see with Unhealthy families, unhealthy children or children that are, I don't want to say going astray, that you need that father figure for many reasons.
But, John, what's your take on the responsibility, you think, for keeping your family healthy and for everybody listening tonight something to think about?

In the beginning part, there's a very unsettling scene where Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson's father— was a bit of a tyrant, you know, he's a bit of an iron fist.

And I think we saw that when we were kids where a lot of the parents were an iron fist, but now we, you know, we're now a comforting hand.

Uh, so if, if the dad and mom aren't eating healthy or, or doing things that are not, you know, not very wise health wise, of course the children are going to see that.

Not only mom and dad preparing the food for the children, but actually living by that and eating nutritious food.

You know, I took sodium out of my diet about three months ago because of something that you posted because of hypertension.

So we always have to be on top of it and be on top of it for the children as well.
