Send a question or comment via text message Exposure isn't about proving you can sit in traffic, go to the supermarket, or make it through dinner…
What can I tell you? I think it's a thing that I see often, whether it's in our social media comments section or the online community, even in my therapy practice, no matter how many times people listen to the podcasts or read the books or watch the videos or whatever it is.
I think it's human nature to still hang on to the idea that when I decide to do it anyway, or I do willful tolerance, or I do floating or acceptance, Claire Weeks style, I'm still trying to not get triggered too bad.
I think people really have a hard time, and I get this, it's nobody's fault, coming to grips with the fact that you do the thing to be uncomfortable.
Not to prove that you can sit in traffic like our sender-enterer or go to the supermarket or have dinner with a friend.
So if you're on social media, you know, you just go through any TikTok or Instagram feed, it's full of people telling you, here's how to get rid of a feeling.
But it's from the belief that when all feelings are welcome and you are comfortable with all feelings, that you are going to have the ones you like more often.
So if you resist anxiety, if you resist discomfort, it sticks around long enough.
