Pray that the Lord's message will spread rapidly and be honoured wherever it goes, just as when it came to you.

Pray too that we will be rescued from the evil one, for not everyone is a believer, but the Lord is faithful.

I don't know if you remember, but at the tail end of the last letter, there was a really simple request for prayer.

But here, Paul, Silas and Timothy actually give some specific instructions about what they want prayer for.

It's about the gospel expanding and protection from the opponents, the opposition of the gospel.

They'd prayed for them continually and they'd written them letters to encourage them and strengthen them in their faith.

In fact, they want and need the prayers of this young and suffering church community.

And I think this is really great little principle in here that's easy for us to overlook when we think about it in terms of care.

As we do life together, there will naturally be seasons where one person needs to care for somebody more than another.

Prayer is never meant to be like a tit-for-tat kind of arrangement, like I pray for you and then I have to wait until you pray for me before I can pray for you again.

Or prayer is not meant to be something that just belongs to the spiritually superior or to those who've been walking with Jesus for a long time.
