Over 130 episodes over 2 and a half years with a lot of lessons. In this solo episode I get into how Diet Starts Monday started, from recording in our studio in Cape Town to launching into it on my…
So now that I have a bit more of a clear vision for the podcast, I'm able to really look within myself, find my purpose, find my why as to why I want to keep doing this podcast.
And I think if you asked Adam from the podcast studio, He was watching me when we were doing about the 100th episode.
We are 131 in now.
You could see in the tone that I was speaking, I was struggling.
I didn't really want to do it anymore.
The podcast wasn't really going anywhere.
The effort put in was not getting the reward that I was looking for.
And it was a really tough time in the podcast.
And I'll say to anyone out there that's running a podcast, is that you're always going to have those ups and downs.
You're always going to get to a point where you feel fatigued and everything feels like a chore.
And you just got to push through and you really got to understand your why.
Why are you here? Why are you doing this? What do you get out of it? What's your internal gratification? I think that's super important to understand because if it's just purely for external gratification, external niceties like likes and shares and comments, It's not going to last because the effort you need to put in to run this podcast really is too much for just external gratification.
You have to have something burning inside of you.
And I've been quite lucky that the podcast has become a passion of mine.
It's become something I think about all the time.
I actually listened to a podcast by Chris Williamson on his 1100 episode, and he was talking about obsession and how obsession is such an unbelievable state to be in and to have because it's basically free motivation.
It's free motivation and free discipline all piled into one because you end up doing the thing without even thinking about it.
And when you get a healthy obsession, and that's why negative obsessions are bad, and you get into things like ex-girlfriends or drinking drugs, when you're obsessed with something that's negative, it can be really hard to get out of.
but because obsession takes over your mind.
You literally think about it when you're in the shower, you think about it when you go to bed, you think about it when you get up in the morning, you think about it when you're training, you think about it 24-7.
And I actually had an interesting chat with Dr. Manu last week, and we spoke about how there isn't really a difference between obsession and anxiety.
Being someone that's had both, it's the same thing happening in your brain.
When I had chronic anxiety for three months, I had overriding thoughts in my brain that I could not stop.
They just kept going round and round and round in circles.
And now my obsession with Diocese Monday, it has the same effect.
