It's just before midnight on August 16th, 2022.
A mother and father are walking through a quiet street in the city of Ingolstadt, Germany.
They were looking for their daughter's car.
She had told them she was just running up to her old apartment to grab some mail.
It should have been a quick trip, but she never called to say she'd made it there.
Hours passed with no news.
Calls to her phone went straight to voicemail.
So her parents drove from their home in Munich to Ingolstadt to look for her themselves.
Looking through the window, they see a young woman in the back seat.
She has long, dark hair.
Her face has been beaten beyond recognition.
Her body covered in stab wounds.
They know it's their daughter.
An emergency doctor is called to the scene, but she can only confirm what the parents already fear.
The woman in the car is dead.
This is the doppelganger murder.
Her name went out to local media within a day.
Except, less than 24 hours after the body was found, something turned up that made no sense.

Meanwhile, investigators were working on identifying the body.
