We're going to start with the major index and mutual funds that are in the portfolio right now.
And at the top, with almost 62%, is ticker FXAIX, the Fidelity 500 index fund.
Now, 80% of the money that we put into the 401k goes into FXAIX, and it's the biggest holding in the portfolio, as you see on the screen.
And all it does is it simply tracks the S&P 500, so it's been an excellent place to be, which it's been powered by the AI-driven earnings boom.
And even though valuations are high with a P.E. of almost 27, and there's concern about a valuation pullback, this fund does its job at a rock-bottom expense ratio of 0.02%, which is $2 for every $10,000 invested.
And this is a bet on the long-term future of the U.S. economy.
Now, as we go through this, you're going to see a lot of stock cards and information from SimpliSafeDividends.com. And as you see on the screen here, I have an affiliate link where you can click it and get SimpliSafe Dividends special for one month, completely free.

address.
And that brings us to our next biggest holding, the Fidelity Extended Market Index Fund, ticker FSMAX, at 13.02%.
And 20% goes into this and our only other holding in the very limited options you have in a 401k.
If you're not familiar, FSMAX has 3,400 holdings of mid and small cap stocks that are not in the S&P 500 and has top current holdings like SpaceX yes I know it's a mega cap company at almost 2 trillion but it's still included here currently there's also other large holdings like Snowflake and Bloom Energy and 2026 has finally started to pay off because Small caps have gained over 22% in the first half of the year, which is their best first half since 1991 after trailing large caps for five straight years.
So FSMAX is more of a catch-up investment that still bets on the U.S. economy and the long-awaited rotation into smaller companies, which looks to be well underway.
And it also has a super low expense ratio of 0.035%, which is a whopping 3%.
$3.50 for every $10,000 invested annually into FSMAX.
And then that brings us to our next biggest fund, which is VTI, the Vanguard total stock market ETF at 4.8%.
And if you didn't know, VTI owns nearly the entire US market except for some over-the-counter and micro-cap penny stocks, and it's all in a single fund.
So we're talking over 3,500 companies.
So it captures all the big tech and the small caps that are coming back.
And because of the huge overlap at the top with the S&P 500, it moves mostly in line with the S&P 500.
But with a bit more small and mid cap exposure, it could slightly perform better over the coming years if small and mid caps do continue to perform well.
So VTI is incredibly solid, incredibly boring product.
but it's doing its job.
And it also has an expense ratio of 0.03%.
