Interrupted by Jesus - John 12:12-19

And today we're going to look at a passage in John 12, verse 12 to 19, where Jesus makes his triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

And we learn something important about him through how he chooses to enter.

It's written about in all four of the gospels.

So it's like super, super important.

But let's give some context.

This is a really big moment.

Why it's big.

Number one is Passover festival.

So this is a festival where the people of God from all over would come and they would celebrate when God brought the Israelites out of Egypt into the promised land where he liberated them.

And so there were people from all over traveling to Jerusalem for this festival.

Lots of people there.

It was like dedication times hundreds, like lots of people there.

Meanwhile, the news about Jesus and about his kingdom, about the miracles, the signs and the wonders, the news is spreading fast.

Nimesh a few weeks ago talked to us about how Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.

And there was a particular crowd who witnessed this miracle, who were going everywhere telling people about Jesus, trying to call them in to come and see him.

And they were wondering, is he going to be at Passover? Where's he going to be? So there was a lot of anticipation and hype around Jesus in this moment.

Lots of eyes on him.

But not all the eyes that were on Jesus were happy about his ministry.

This is also a significant moment because the Pharisees, the religious leaders at the time, they wanted Jesus dead.

They wanted him killed.

And so they spread the word and said anyone who sees him, they need to tell them so that they would go and they would arrest him and they would have him killed.

So as Jesus makes this entry into Jerusalem, he knows that he's making it into essentially his death.

It's super significant.

And so he hadn't been moving publicly before this moment.

So for Jesus, this is a moment of high anticipation and there's a high risk to this entrance that he's about to make.
