I was actually inspired to talk about this because one of my clients said, "You know, I just always get stuck on this point.
I don't know if I'm making the same silly mistakes as everyone." And ultimately, it stopped them in the middle of their speech, which meant that they had a break in their flow.
So as I said before, reported speech is just retelling what somebody else said.
I'm sure you're familiar with that grammar topic if you've studied it in any way whatsoever, and I just want you to think about it in two parts, a little bit like two parts of an orange or two parts of an avocado.
You've got the first half, which is the reporting clause, and the second half, which is the reported content.
For example, you could say, "The manager said the deadline was unrealistic." The manager said, reporting clause, the deadline was unrealistic, reported content.
