Kings Go To War

There are some decisions we make which are costly decisions.

There is a right place at the right time, and that means that there is also a wrong place at the wrong time.

And sometimes we make decisions which don't feel like particularly significant decisions, but a little decision that gets you out of alignment of where you're meant to be can actually be the first step to decision after decision after decision, which takes you completely out of where God wants you to be.

Let me go on to verse number two, it says this.

It happens late one afternoon.

Here's David, all the men of the nation, they're out at war.

All of Israel, later on it tells us all of Judah.

In other words, everybody's out battling, but it happened late one afternoon when David arose from where? His couch.

And walking on the roof of the king's house, he saw from the roof a woman bathing.

I laughed as Pastor Peter mentioned this today.

But he saw from the roof a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful.

And David sent and inquired about the woman.

Amazing, as you read this, I don't know about you, but I start to pick up this decision after decision after decision.

He sent and inquired about the woman.

And one said, is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? And so I would love to see the next verse say, so David left it there.

Unfortunately, it doesn't.

It says, so David sent messengers and took her, and she came to him, and he lay with her.

Now, she had been purifying herself from her uncleanness.

If you don't know anything about the, you know, the way it would go about it, for essentially at the end of a woman's cycle, there'd be seven days of uncleanness, and after that, okay, forget.

That's the Bible, I'm not, okay, whatever.

Then she returned to her house, and the woman conceived.

And she sent and told David, I am pregnant.

So David sent word to Joab, send me Uriah the Hittite.

And Joab sent Uriah to David, and when Uriah came to him, David asked how Joab was doing and how the people were doing and how the war was going.

He didn't care about any of those things.
