Our Friend, Mr. Don Masters — Episode 41

Dear Point of Grace, my name is Missy Schultz, and I'm from a small town in West Texas called Sudan.

Yes, like the country.

I would like to tell you about a very special friend of mine, but first, a little background.

I've been listening to and following Point of Grace for almost 33 years.

Yes, I'm old.

My three daughters, now all grown up, and I cannot decorate a Christmas tree without listening to a Christmas story.

Our oldest fell in love with Gather at the River at the young age of two and now fell in love with at the age of two, and now at 32, has not stopped listening to your music.

Needless to say, we are lifelong fans.

This letter about a friendship made possible by y'all.

In October of 2017, that same older daughter and I were blessed to be able to attend the very first Circle of Friends weekend in Nashville.

It was the trip of a lifetime for us.

Being the nerdy fans we are, we had so much fun.

And on the first night, pictures were being taken in the lobby of the hotel.

And while we were waiting, a nice man came up and introduced himself to us.

His name was Don Masters.

He very proudly let us know he was Denise's dad.

We were awestruck that this sweet man would approach us and start a conversation.

It was very soon very evident that he was someone to settle in with, be comfortable around, and pay attention to.

He was soft-spoken,

thoughtful, and a great listener.

I loved talking to him.

Not only was he interested in me and my background, but in my kids as well.

Throughout the weekend, we saw him and his wife Janice, and we would always talk for a few minutes before getting back to the weekend's festivities.

At the end of our time in Nashville, we vowed to keep in touch.
