422 - The Witch (2015)

But with the movie that we're talking about today, The Witch, premiered in 2015, released in 2016, written and directed by Robert Eggers, tells the story of a family set in the 1930s in New England who have been banished from their Puritan community to live alone.

And they move off into the woods and begin to be kind of tormented in some way by a possible force in the woods.

And you begin to see this kind of family unravel as the movie goes on.

Again, written and directed by Robert Eggers, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Innocent, Kate Dickey, Harvey Scrimshaw, Ellie Granger, Lucas Dawson, produced by Jay Van Hoy, Lars Knudsen, Jody Redmond, Daniel Beckerman, Rodrigo Texeria.

There's a lot of producers we'll talk about later.

Edited by Louise Ford.

Music by Mark Corvin.

Costume design by Linda Muir.

Production design by Craig Lathrop.

And so Val, with this movie, what is your history with it?

Well, as you know, I love witchy stuff.

I love horror.

And so I saw this movie.

I think I wanted to see it in theaters, but for some reason didn't end up seeing it.

And so I actually didn't end up seeing this film until I moved to L.A.

So it came out in, what was it, 2015?

So it was released in 2016.

It premiered in 2015.

Okay.

And so I ended up seeing it the fall that I was in Los Angeles, 2017.

And I believe, and actually I want to talk about this later because I don't want to take us off topic, but there is a scene.

that multiple people have claimed to have seen either in theaters or on a DVD version that I have not seen because it was a plot thing that I actually had a question about.

And on Reddit, people can't really seem to tell if it's a Mandela effect situation or if this scene is real and it's just included on a DVD.

And so because I haven't seen this scene, I'm fairly certain that I watched it on streaming in some format.

way, shape or form in 2017 or 2018, somewhere around there.
