Thomasin

Yeah, yeah.

So Thomasin is keeping Samuel.

She's playing peekaboo with him.

He is in front of her on a blanket and peekabooing at him.

Like just impossibly gone.

Like there's no there's nothing nearby.

There's no it's it's in no way Thomasin's fault.

No, it is not.

And...

So, yeah, I thought he did such a great job of having that horror element in a lot of these scenes where Thomasin is talking to Jonas and Mercy where she's like singing the song and stuff about the about the goat.

And you're realizing that.

Slowly but surely, you are creeped out by the idea that they talk to this goat.

And so basically it is you're seeing the witch come in and stab both Mercy and Jonas.

Right.

In front of Thomasin.

Yes.

You speak aright.

Thomasin.

It was I.

Liar.

Mercy, she's but telling fantasies.

Perchance I'll boil and bake thee, since we're lack of food.

No! Stop, Thomasin.

It's not true.

Mm-hmm, very.

I think for me, like, uh, the first time I watched The Witch, it was absolutely terrifying to me, even though it was slow and I did think, like, "Oh, I need subtitles probably to really understand what's going on." But just the idea, like, I, I have felt like Thomasin so many times in my life-

Hmm

... as a woman, just, like, whether it be your parents coming at you and saying, you know, "You're a witch," in whatever way, whatever form that they're saying that in or society coming at you and saying, like, "You're not conforming to something.

[laughs]

She probably had no idea.

Thomasin had probably only heard of butter.

Yeah.

Outside, they go into the stark wilderness.

Once they get there, I think an important thing that happens is that Thomasin plays peekaboo with Samuel.

And the peekaboo game is one where she hides her face and reveals her face.

It's hiding and it's revealing.
