There we considered both men and what their lives teach us about working with God.

His response to God's call and how God developed him from the man who followed Elijah into the prophet who carried a double portion of his spirit.

As we study his life, the goal is not to admire a great prophet of old, but to recognize principles that remain relevant to everyone who desires to be prepared, strengthened, and used by God.

There is one verse that governs everything we will say today, and it is not spoken of Elisha at all, but of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Elisha's double portion, granted centuries before Pentecost, becomes for us a striking Old Testament shadow of exactly this.

Not a private privilege reserved for one prophet, but a pattern of what maturity in the spirit looks like for any believer walking faithfully with God.

It says this of the Lord Jesus specifically, whose entire life was marked by unbroken obedience to the Father.

If fullness of the Spirit rested upon him because of who he was and how he walked, then our own pursuit of that same fullness cannot bypass the pathway of obedience today.
