Kia ora Welcome to another episode with the Kiwi American Running Duo, this one is special because it's an interview episode. Mal and Dwayne get to sit down with Nigel Gilmour who within 36 hours of…
I did that exact workout, um, pre Auckland marathon, like the buildup, the same thing that you did.
So I did the three by 15 minutes and I remember I failed it.
Um, and I believe I did it at the, I've done all of them at the crit track.
And so to me it was, I think, cause I've had previous coaches, they've like always told me.
Um, about specificity and they're like, if you're going to train for a certain marathon, um, I need you to run.
Yeah.
I can't have you running on the trails and I can't have you running like hills.
Like you have to be running on like pretty flattish stuff.
And so, yeah, I did the crit track every time out of, I think, again, the specificity of it.
Mm-hmm.
But I just felt so annoyed the first time I did that workout because I was like, it wasn't well.
How am I going to do this? I'm so unfit.
And then the second time I was like kind of holding on, but it was gale force winds, hail, rain.
And I remember like Fard or I think it was Soda or Fard were like out there trying to do it too.
And we both were just like, this is the worst weather.
It's like really rough terrain.
um, training leading up to the marathon.
That's like what I think historically people have to run through hard conditions when you, for your training, you know, but then the third one I hit four by 20 minutes, like faster than my marathon pace.
And I was like, Oh, okay.
Like I'm fit.
I'm ready.
Like that, that was like the most confident.
Yeah.
Faith in me of like, okay, I can do this.
