Kia ora haere mai
Welcome to another episode with Mal and Dwayne. We start the episode talking about our training. Dwayne’s taper week leading up to Taupo and Mal’s Frihaka plus being plagued with illness. Seems to be a reoccurring issue in this podcast.
We dive into the DNF of Dwayne’s race for Taupo 100k. Largely discussing how race week went, race morning, and race day unfolding. His decision of when he knew he was done racing the 100k. His decision to recommit to eventually doing another 100k now that he actually has unfinished business.
We talk about crewing, get snippets from Kieran Horne the 2nd place male finisher for the Taupo 70k distance and Amber Silich the first place female and 6th overall for the Taupo 100k. We bring up the new CR for the Taupo 100k set by Cary Carleton running a shocking 7hrs 40min. Mal describes her encounters with local Aster Metcalf noticing that she had a fall. Turns out that fall was 5k into the 50k and she had broken her hand and her neck. YIKES!!!
