Let's get into it, shall we? Remember when I told Katie, volunteer me as a class parent without asking? Well, this was the first meeting, the real one.
I walked in thinking, I'll sit in the back, you know, nod.
and take notes like a professional.
Yeah, now, that's not what this is.
It's a room full of parents who have clearly done this before.
They talk in a language that I don't speak, fundraiser things, spirit week that, the fall festival committee.
What? Somebody said we'll need volunteers for the trunk-a-treat, and every veteran parent looked down at their notebook at the exact same time, perfectly coordinated.
I didn't even bring a pen to this meeting, guys.
I wasn't ready, okay? Then we got to the sign-up sheet.
Okay, carpool crew, let me explain.
I know a hot potato when I see one.
That sheet went around the table like it was on fire.
Everybody was signing the smallest things possible.
One parent says, yeah, I'll bring napkins, cups.
The other goes, yeah, I'll bring decoration, plates.
And there's me, no book open, no pen, trying to look like I belong.
I raised my hand to hold a clipboard.
I laughed with more questions than answers.
Then to make matters even worse, I started asking other parents what they sign up for and they start asking me if I wanted to co-event with them.
Guys, what part of this whole situation that I'm not aware what I sign up for, okay? I think I need to have a serious conversation with my wife.
I might be involved in a couple events where someone from the board will contact me.
I don't know what a Thanksgiving feast or a walkathon or trunk or treat requires.
And I'm telling you, neither prepare me for this.
Katie text me afterwards.
