Fishing Report 10-5

So the offshore fleets got out both days on the weekend.

I was a little curious if that would happen.

And it actually looks like today and tomorrow will be the days that they may miss.

But the Hatteras fleet, where we always start out, has been having some really good meat fishing.

Black fin tuna, mostly.

A few yellow fin tuna, but mostly.

Their Wahoo averages have gone from one a day per boat to three, two or three.

A little bit of improvement there.

And the Mahi bite is very good.

All balers primarily, but a baler is a five to eight pound Mahi.

These are the green and yellow fish you see around the dock.

They're really a dolphin fish.

But you put that together, blackfin tuna, scattered wahoo, a dock full of dolphin.

And then on Saturday, they had some pretty good sailfish.

And we're going to get into more about the sailfish in a moment.

But I think on Saturday, Ron Whitaker on the release had five.

Sea Creature Steve had nine sailfish.

You put all that together, that's some fine fishing.

They did not get anybody out inshore on yesterday, on Sunday, but Saturday, they had good fishing for bluefish and sheephead close to the inlet, so that was good.

And then we'll keep the tuna beat going as we move up and talk about Oregon Inlet.

And the billfish and bite has dropped off quite a bit.

Now keep in mind, those fish are heading south.

They're going, heading for Florida and the Bahamas and all that.

So as we go through this report, the further south you go, the better that billfish you get.

But the Oregon Inlet Fleet had great meat fishing over the weekend.
