We're going to begin a new series of four messages here in the month of August as we kind of get this season of ministry beginning as we walk through Ephesians chapter 2, a great chapter in the Word of God.
Three Jewish boys are facing a fiery furnace, an impossible future, as they've angered a narcissistic tyrant because they wouldn't bow down.
Listen, is there a but God story in your life? It's so important because Christianity is not simply an intellectual set of ideas.
Today we're going to begin a brief series, four messages, as we walk through the Bible chapter of Ephesians chapter 2.
It's a good time to be reminded of our purpose, our fellowship, and talk about what it means to be part of God's family and why we do some of the things we do.
To experience a new community, you have to first experience what God alone can do for you.
And you must experience what it means to be in Christ before you can ever really understand what it means to be in community or in a church.
And so as we open our Bibles to this letter that Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus, we see a A beautiful chapter that begins with deep doctrinal truth and ends with wonderful practical application.
And in Ephesians chapter 2, Paul talks about the but God story that every one of us.
And so at Calvary, our custom is to invite you to stand, if you are able and willing to, as a way of honoring the Word of God.
Ephesians 2, verse 1, this is the Word of the Lord, and you... were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air and the spirit now working in the disobedient.
We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also.
Father, many of us in this room today, in our overflow area and online, think about our but God moment.
And so, Father, our hearts are full of gratitude, but sometimes we forget, and sometimes we forget just where we were and what it took to change us.
And, Lord, there may be somebody here today who is in a hopeless place, facing overwhelming odds, wondering, emptying.
And as you changed everything then, in their life you could change everything today.
