- *What do I even pray for a person I don't know yet?* - *How do I trust God with something this important and this far away?* This episode is for the SAHM who has never thought to pray for her…
I want to tell you about the moment I started praying for my child's future spouse.
At the time, my child was about seven years old and I was tucking them in.
You know, doing our normal routine, pulling up the covers, say our goodnight prayers, praying for grandparents and aunts and uncles, the whole thing.
When a thought came to me, kind of out of nowhere, but it was that the person this child will marry is alive right now.
Like just the thought that that was a reality kind of got me thinking deeper.
Here I am thinking this child could be seven years old themselves.
Maybe they are being tucked in by their own mom at that same moment.
And maybe they are navigating something hard that will shape who they become.
I had never ever prayed for them.
Not once.
Then a sermon confirmed this thought.
And in that sermon, the pastor talked about the investment we make in our children.
And one of the most important investments is the man or woman who will be a part of the union in the family.
Prayer for my future son or daughter-in-law could reach so far into the future in spaces that I could never have access to.
But right now, tonight, in this moment over my seven-year-old, I realize I better start praying so I could intercede for that person who I've never met.
That night when I went to bed, I started praying.
Not a polished, fancy prayer.
Something simple, kind of like, Lord, whoever they are, wherever they are, keep them, shape them, prepare them, cover them, help them be prepared for what is ahead.
When I finished that prayer, something settled in my spirit that night.
I realized that I was not powerless over my child's future love story.
I had access to the one who is writing it.
I could partner and pray starting that night, asking God to help my heart and mind be prepared and ask the Lord to prepare the person that he was going to partner with my child.
So let me ask you this.
Have you ever prayed for your child's future spouse? Well, now is the best time to start.
I'm going to share with you four things that kept propelling me and helped me to continue to pray for my child's future spouse with faith and with intention.
