- *"Am I raising a child who will live with an open hand?"* - *"How do I pray generosity over my child when the world keeps telling them to hold on tight?"* - *"What does it actually look like to…
A moment of humility.
They have been saving for something very specific.
And they had been wanting to save up for it and had been doing it for quite some time.
We have been teaching them the value of managing their money by saving certain expenditures, you know, not spending all the money that you get.
And then, of course, putting some aside for just savings in general.
Then this precious Sunday came and at Children's Church, they were told they were raising money to give to a special organization that helped orphaned children.
All the kids were asked to help and give what they could.
Now, to be fair, I think this was a really good opportunity for any of us to help orphaned And the fact that they went and talked to all the kids at one time, I feel like it was just going to be a win-win all around.
But I knew my kids and I knew that there was a good chance that they were going to come talk to me, not about giving up their money, but certainly about asking me what change in money that I had.
But lo and surprise, my beautiful child comes to me with this piggy bank in hand and says, Mom, can we give them this money to help those children have toys? Yeah, it was a moment, you know, the moment where the tears start to well up in your eyes.
You get that knot in your throat and you just want a ball crying, but you know you can't because the kid is staring at you.
So, yeah, you got to gain some composure.
And I looked down at my beautiful child and nodded my head up and down and took the piggy bank.
I was completely undone.
I realized somewhere in an ordinary day of our lives together, a seed had taken root.
A seed of generosity that I had not seen growing.
I thought about all the small moments I had with my children.
The times that I had given and let them see me give.
The prayers I had spoken over their hearts.
The conversations about what it meant to hold on things too tightly and to know that God is in control.
So it's better to hold things a little looser.
None of those memories, those moments felt significant at that time.
They had grown into something beautiful I didn't even see.
