Patreon Preview: Ted Lasso, Season 4, Ep 1 - 3

I understand how narratively it can be a hard watch because we've inverted the gaze and some of these characters are actually...

Because the thing is, in the first season, Rebecca was the clear villain.

And then it was clear as it went is that she wasn't actually the villain.

Rupert was the villain.

And that allowed her to pivot to us.

And then Rupert became the big bad, right? There has always been able to be...

A villain, right? So

interesting, Amira.

Go ahead.

Finish your thought.

Here, in this

season, the villain is sexism.

The villain is the world.

The villain is apathy.

Yes.

Preach.

Go.

And so

I think...

So I think it...

it sets up a scenario for two things.

One, it can be hard to watch when you know that villain won't be conquered and can't be conquered and hasn't been conquered.

Two, you need people to be the personified version of that.

And it's going to mean that there's people that we have liked in other ways that are going to become the personification of the villain, sexism, misogyny, and that's going to be hard to watch.

I also think that it can make wins feel cheap because you also know it's like how i talk about children's book because you're like no but this is still a thing so like they are gonna wrap it in a boat you can't actually yeah yeah whereas like in ted lasso when you in the early seasons when you had to suspend your belief that this like small little team was now competing we had a modern day allegory to that with rexum when you pour investment into a team You can actually – you can actually improve.
