Jason had an idea for a topic? When did that happen? Um, but I was thinking about, you know, in preparing for Origins and whenever I'm, I'm thinking about, like, getting ready for a convention or when I'm going to a convention, one of the things I'm always constantly asking myself is like, "What, what are my goals for this convention?" Um, and that has always been difficult for me.
I tend to set the bar a bit too high for my goals.
Um, you know, I, I stopped going to Unpub Prime partly for that reason, that, uh, my barrier or, like, my bar for goals was so high for what I needed to achieve for the cost of going to that convention, that I never, almost never achieved that.
Um, which was not Unpub's fault, it was my fault, [chuckles] um-
... for, you know, needing too much.
And, uh, and so I've got a, got this fickle relationship with, with setting goals for going to conventions and events.
And in thinking about Origins, I, I felt some of that as well, so I was really trying to sit down and, like, kind of hammer out like what really, what do you need to achieve at this? And, and I'm not pitching at all, so that is different than it has been historically, right? Um, I'm only play testing some very specific things.
Um, and so it just got me thinking about goals and for when you're going to a convention, um, w- what-- How, how do we set goals that are, that are meaningful, that we can fulfill, um, and that will help move us forward with, with what our, you know, our bigger goals are.
Uh, and I thought it might be interesting to specifically frame that with Origins coming up.
Um, so I found two other people going to Origins.
Um, and in addition to that, I was like, "Hey, let's..." We all kind of like, here's three of us that have different goals.
Emily, obviously your goals, I think, are the most different from any of ours because you've got a booth and you're doing-
... a lot of that stuff.
Plus, you know, you've got your laptop, so when, when people aren't at your booth, you can work more.
[chuckles] Um-
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, so yeah, and then Roscoe, I don't know exactly what you're doing, um, but your goals are different than ours.
Like, I know you're doing different stuff.
