Ahead of the 2026 Australian Championship season, we caught up for a chat with Lions FC Head Coach Dan Barber.
And, uh, I guess how's the time, um, off after a, uh, after a very busy conclusion to the season, if you had much time off?
Yeah, the players had a couple of weeks off after the, the semifinal of the Australia Cup, so that was, that was good and of course well-earned for them guys.
And for the staff, obviously we were busy just preparing for the Australian Championship, so the break hasn't quite hit us yet, but I'm sure it will at some point.
So w- w- so in the Australia Cup, that semifinal, that was, uh, the team's last game.
And I guess barring that 15-minute period just after halftime where Bulut Jaj went, went crazy and scored a couple of goals and basically beyond, you must be extra proud as well in hindsight as well about how close, uh, the team went to sort of topping the now Australia Cup champions.
We were rooting them to, to win, and, uh, I know there was a, a lot of support for them, uh, around the narrative of the game and, um, over the weekend.
And I think it was kind of pleasing for us to, to go out to the eventual winners, first of all.
Delighted with the, the Australia Cup run that they'd had this year, and I think we'd got ourselves into a position on merit to be in the semifinal and established, you know, a, a g- good representation from ourselves, especially for, as you said, probably for 50, 60 minutes there.
And just kind of got a, got a little bit on top of us for 15, 20 minutes and we basically lost the, lost the game in that period.
A, a great experience and, and great exposure for the club on the national stage.
