John Galliano Is Finally Getting a Met Gala. Should He? (Teaser)

So they dropped this news on Friday night.

It was about 6:00 PM my time, East Coast time.

Midnight here, hello.

Yeah.

That's like when celebrities announce their divorces.

It's like when-

Or when the government announces something really grim that nobody wants to vote on, yeah

... it's when you announce news that you wanna bury, which is kinda weird 'cause it's like this is your Met Gala, this is your [chuckles] big exhibition at the Costume Institute.

It's not news that you, that they can bury.

I guess they wanted to dampen maybe the conversation about the controversy obviously associated with John Galliano, and I know you addressed it in your newsletter, uh, over the weekend.

I'll drop the link to that in the show notes, but should we recap his controversies first for those who don't remember? I, I'm actually finding in talking to a lot of people I know who I'm close with, they don't really remember what happened in 2011, 2010.

Fashion has a short memory sp- fashion-

We all have short memories, though, in a way

... well, our culture has a short memory.

I mean, there's a whole generation of people out there who don't think anything happened before the year 2000.

What?

Yeah, so where to begin with this? Do you, do you wanna talk about it?

Well, I think it's-

'Cause you're, you're John's biographer, so talk about what, what you dug up and what you know.

Here's what I think about the Friday night drop.

I think we should call it that, the Friday night drop.

The Friday night drop, yeah.

[chuckles]

Friday night drop.

I come from Washington, D.C. I've seen this happen so many times in news, 'cause I'm, my background is in news, and this is exactly what you said.
