Kayla and Liz got their first taste of this year’s Bakers - and the new judge - in Cake Week. All are utterly delicious. They (of course) join the discourse around the size of Nigella’s bites…
Okay, so Clara made a Portuguese stout cake with orange zest, and she intended to do a sugar dome.
It did not work for her.
To her credit, she tried three times.
Yes, she did try.
She
really tried.
And she was like... getting it there but it just wasn't staying
yeah the first one they showed it sort of pop and i was like i bet that really like i imagine there's like hot steam sugar steam blowing in your face and i'm like oh that probably burns
yeah
good for her for continuing to try but also like you have to melt down like i mean i think that also the fact that she failed three times but the fact that she made three decent attempts right I'm like, caramel
week.
If she makes it to caramel week or if they have a sugar week.
Spun sugar, like, cotton candy week.
I have confidence that she'll do good because she was already trying to do...
So, clearly, if she was trying to do it in week one, she's done it in practice before.
I know she has.
Yeah.
So, anyway... um her dome didn't work but as far as reviews on her signature they said the textures were good and the buttercream was good and they told her it was a nice cake
she i gave her like one of the top marks for the signature there were a couple others a lot of people it seemed like sort of the general theme was good flavor overbaked yes there were
so many overbaked
yes and so she didn't get really negative feedback like at all um they kind of commented on like, oh, no sugar dome.
said it wasn't necessary.
And Claire was like,
yes.
