S4 EP35 - Mark 6 Part 2

So if you listen to the first part of this conversation, we kind of nudged towards the bit that we're not talking about here at the end of that.

So famously, Jesus feeds a lot of people with not a lot of stuff.

And this really is... a bigger conversation about power.

It's been a conversation about power from Jesus being rejected and in his hometown and Jesus sending out the team and the team seeing amazing things and being a part of amazing things.

And then we had the conversation about the death of John the Baptist, which is a conversation about power.

And then as a contrast to the banquet that is the scene for John's beheading, we get this contrast conversation about power from a child offering everything they have and the power of God turning that into provision for John.

And so we get lots of crowds.

We get lots of people.

We get lots of push and pull with power.

We get lots of, um, signs and wonders.

We get lots of moments, but, but really, um, Mark is bringing our attention to, or the gospel of Mark, I should say is bringing our attention to, but can you answer this question? Who, who's Jesus? Yeah.

Who is Jesus? Um, yeah.

And so the, the context of the team that just witnessed what, um, is this miraculous moment and it's been placed in this run of a conversation around power and we're being encouraged to see the disciples missing the point and we're being encouraged to

I take heart by that I'm not gonna lie because he doesn't like get rid of them and be like guys he's like just carry on come on you'll get it you'll get it you'll get it

so um some of the context is um yep so we um the people the the wider crowds have been following Jesus around for a while um and they are you know in a remote place and so again lay it in whichever version of this story you know jesus kind of presents to them all right well we need dinner then aren't we and they're like uh five guys is closed yeah

it's like it's gonna it would take a whole year's wages to like feed the amount of people that are

here if you've noticed that like quite a few people have turned up for this one yeah it

marks mark loves the crowds

So there's a lot of people around and we are confronted.

You've heard every preacher you've ever heard preach talk about a version of this.

They're confronted with the cost.

They are very aware that they don't have what they need to meet the needs of those around them.

Jesus is like, you bunch of dum-dums.

And

they get to participate in a miracle.
