Shane Gillis’s SNL monologue has sparked a backlash over his joke about women’s gym outfits—and I think he was right. Today on America Unfiltered, I’m reacting LIVE to the monologue and explaining why I disagree with the accusations of misogyny.
Gillis’s comments about revealing gym clothes have drawn criticism online, including from Dan Levy and former SNL cast member Ego Nwodim. I’m making the case that provocative clothing is fair game for comedy, and that calling a joke misogynistic doesn’t settle the argument.
We’re getting into gym culture, modesty, double standards, and why this particular joke struck such a nerve. Where’s the line between criticizing someone’s outfit and attacking women? And should comedians be expected to avoid an observation simply because people find it offensive?
I’ll give my honest take as we watch and discuss the reaction. Join the live chat and tell me where you stand: did Shane cross a line, or are people overreacting to a joke?
