Sermon - Jesus rises from the dead - Mark 15:33-16:8

But I think we could probably agree that there is one most important person in all of human history, and that is Jesus Christ.

Now, I don't think I'm going out on a limb by saying this.

I certainly wouldn't be alone in suggesting this.

Even today, hundreds of millions of people all around the world would agree with us.

And they're the ones who are worshipping Jesus as God, just like us.

They pray to him.

They sing about him.

Even our calendar, our week is organised around him.

And the most important moment in the life of the most important person who ever lived is what we come to this evening.

the death and the resurrection of Christ.

And so as we look at it, what I want you to do is to ask yourself, could that moment then be the most important in my life? Now, could that moment then be the most important moment in my life now? So have that on your mind as we read through Mark's gospel tonight.

And tonight we do come to the end of our series in Mark's gospel.

Remember the purpose of Mark in writing this gospel has been to show you who Jesus is and to demonstrate to you why he really is that important.

After all, this is actually how he began his gospel.

If you turn back to Mark chapter one, you'll see this for yourself.

In Mark chapter 1, Mark writes that this is the beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah.

That word means Christ, the Son of God.

Mark wants to convince us that the news about Jesus being the Christ, the Son of God, is good news.

And his whole book, which we've been reading all year, is his argument and the explanation for his point.

So what have we learnt from Mark as we've gone through the Gospel? Well, we've gone over many things.

In many ways, we've seen that Jesus is actually much like us, human being much like us.

He had feelings like we do.

He had emotions like we do.

He had friends like we do.

He had enemies like we do.
