REPLAY: Preston Beeman: Legacy in Progress

Well, let's move on to issues.

What do you feel are the most significant challenges and issues in your area of the state of Kansas and then even at the federal level?

So locally, I think it's help.

It's labor.

You know, we are at the point, I have one part-time hired hand, Gina and I, and our 13-year-old daughter.

And to be able to be big enough for one of the two older kids to come home, we just about can't do enough on our own to get big enough for them to wait for them.

And so labor to me is a huge issue because we could use some help.

We're very fortunate that we have great neighbors that we trade work with.

So when I do need Extra help.

We can get the help, but there's just the day-to-day stuff that it would be nice to have some extra help.

And on the state level, I think that's the same thing.

I meet some friends that I talk to that farm and, you know, it's hard to keep good help because they can go to town and make more money and work nine to five.

Our jobs aren't nine to five.

Yeah, and

inside.

Yeah, and inside, and their wives want them home at 5 o'clock to go and home on the weekends.

And that's unfortunately, or I guess fortunately for us, that's not the way it works.

Right.

Right.

And I don't know on the national level, there's a lot of stuff going on.

You know, I don't know.

I really don't know what would be effect.

I mean, it all affects us.

You know, the price of cattle, the price of corn, all these prices.

The main thing I see is everything costs more and we don't make any more.
