Soulé Rescues Roma, Champions League Preview & More!

I mean, uh, we said this before a week ago when we just had two wins to talk about, Steve, but a huge amount of this, uh, is not just how...

The fact that Roma is undefeated after three matches, but how they're winning.

Uh, they are winning with multi-goal performances.

They are winning with clean sheets.

And the one time that they've conceded so far this season, which leaves them in pretty unique company, honestly, if you're looking at Serie A.

There are, you know, not that many other clubs that h- can say that they've only, uh, um, given up one goal, uh, so far.

It's, it's Roma, ironically enough, Lazio, Juventus, and, uh, Cagliari.

Like th- those are, those are the sides that have given up one goal so far.

And, uh, the fact that Roma's been able to only give up one goal while scoring 10, uh, is truly a testament to something that I think we all expected to see, uh, last season, but didn't get as much of a chance to see it, which is Gasperini's offensive tactics really paying off.

Mm.

Uh, I think that we're now seeing what his closer to ideal tactic will look like, uh, for Roma.

And I gotta say, the more the better.

Uh, w- we look at that Atalanta game in particular, and I, I'm gonna be honest, that was both the most frustrating game that I have seen for about the first 85 minutes of it.

Uh, and then the last 10 minutes were just about, you know, magical.

Uh, both in terms of Mario Hermoso's quick goal in the 89th minute, but then his i- immediate reaction of being, "Let's get going.

Let's get going," to try to get another.

And then Matias Soule, who, we're gonna talk about a bunch obviously.

Mm-hmm.

But man, there's, there's only so much you can say about how determined he is to be an impact player for Roma.

Uh, through injury, through, you know, being, having other players brought in kind of an alm- not as a full Soule replacement, but at least a Soule replacement in the sense that, you know, he's no longer the, the shiny new toy, uh, in the attack.

Uh, but you, you gotta be very impressed with what Roma pulled off against Atalanta on Saturday.

Because, uh, I would not have expected it from most Roma sides that we've followed, uh, to be down 1-0 to Atalanta and then pull off the 2-1 win.

Yeah, for sure.

I mean especially, I mean, Roma teams in the past, they've struggled when, i- in a match like this.

Even when they're, you know, outplaying the opposition for the first 45, they get the goal early second half and kinda, things would've unraveled, I think, in the last five years or so.
