Anyways, we're going to talk about Gary Simmons Jr.
Now, this is pretty...
He didn't earn the name The Butcher.
That is kind of what he has, like, so eloquently been called.
But this is actually pretty recent.
Like, 1996 recent.
And before I get into it, I do want to do a disclaimer.
There is going to be talk of sexual assault, murder, gruesome type of murder, dismemberment, all that kind of stuff.
So if you are squeamish or if you cannot handle that, please do not listen.
Please do not listen.
Skip over those parts if you, like, truly wanted to listen.
But trigger warning that we will talk about things like that in here.
So here's the thing, though, about, like, true crime stories.
They become so infamous that people forget the people actually kind of caught into the middle of it.
And some of those stories are, like, the people who get caught into the middle of it, if they were not... caught i guess in the middle we may have never like received this true crime type of information there may be multiple unsolved murders out there that no one knows anything about but because there are specific people that get caught in the middle of these heinous crimes that like shit actually justice is served and it's kind of like yes that's like that's what you want to hear and this is one of those stories so we may not know, like we were probably too young to even like be listening to any of this.
We were probably, maybe this is something that like crossed paths with our parents, but this actually happened in Mississippi.
So it's actually kind of, we may not have heard this.
But, They were going to talk about the murder, the investigation, the years of appeals, and kind of like the aftermath of it all.
And in later documentaries and media coverage, the nickname The Butcher became a reference to him because of his profession and the fact that he had such a disturbing background.
part in this case.
But I kind of want to start with the young woman that was involved.
Her name's Charlene Leeser.
One summer night in Mississippi in 1996, Charlene found herself trapped inside a metal footlocker after witnessing a murder.
She had no idea whether she would survive or whether anyone would ever learn what happened inside of that house.
