Today we continue our discussion of films in franchises as we talk about our favorite Part 2 from a series. Do you have a favorite first sequel of your own?
Not really.
The thing that has always interested me about part two is, especially in franchises, and you saw this more in the 80s than you do now, because I think now people are starting to figure out what their movie is, what the success of the movie was due to.
But you think about something like, well, I'm going to shoot myself in the foot here.
It started just minutes after the next one.
So it was more of the same.
Which is
fun.
Which is good.
Yeah.
And that's what you expect.
Friday the 13th Part 2 sort of pivoted a little bit because, spoiler alert, Jason Voorhees was not the killer in the first one.
It was his mom, but now he's the killer.
Right.
So again, it's almost like they're starting a new continuity.
Yes.
They go a different direction.
They kind of zag when you're expecting them to zig.
Right.
And you saw that a lot, like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom went a little darker than with Last Crusade.
They came back to basics.
And you saw even with Star Wars, Empire got darker, Star Wars, we're back to Tatooine and the Death Star.
Not really.
