Yeah, so you guys have both been, uh, active participants in the feedout program, and, uh, if you haven't heard of the feedout program, um, I welcome you to really take advantage of this episode and do, uh, some more digging on our website.

But, uh, what was initially started as the junior shootout program, uh, through some, uh, collaboration and some brainstorming, um, it was so successful at the junior level, and we had enough adults that were saying, "Hey, we wanna do this." The adult feedout program was born.

And basically, it's an opportunity to, uh, gain the same data, carcass data, feedlot data, and a lot more that we'll get into.

But, uh, HRC has been our wonderful host of, uh, the junior shootout and the feedout competition.

Um, but, uh, Denise, why, why did Carl and, uh, you think it was important to get started in the feedout?
So we'll be sending our sixth set of calves here, um, to enter the program this fall.
Um, for us, there was a couple different, uh, things that we wanted, uh, that made us wanna jump into this.
One of them is we, we believed in the sires that we were, um, using, the bulls we were producing, and we believed in the cow herd.
Like, how do we start gathering the next step of where these cattle are gonna end up? Because at the end of the day, the consumer, um, the consumer is our buyer, really.
And so we just, we had to figure out how to, how to find that, that next step.
And when we had heard about, um, the partnership with HRC and the American Hereford Association, I was like, "We've gotta figure out how to, to be involved in this." The other part that led us to that was, you know, in our, in our area, Hereford cattle do take a bit of a hit at the sale barn.
Um, somebody's making money on those cattle, so why isn't it us or our producers or our buyers? Um, so that was really the ultimate, the, the two driving forces that made us want to get involved.

Yep, collect some more data, and then, uh, you believed in your genetics, so you wanted to capitalize on them.
And not only that, but just everything, our vaccination program, like, just all of those things, all that, all that stuff just plays an integral part of, um, of the end result.
And having, starting this, um, this operation from scratch, we need to know what, what we needed to change, um, how to better our, our, our cow herd, how to better our management decisions.
