61. Untapped Potential: Building a Roster

I think a lot of people can basically put some characters together, and tactics cards feel overwhelming, but they're not.

You know, once you understand the filters, they're not that bad.

I think the crises is where a lot of people really get totally lost.

Um, Across the Bifrost did a bunch of great episodes.

I think they did four episodes, one on secures and extracts for fast teams, and one on secures and extracts for slow teams.

They're gonna be a little outdated because all these new crises have come out, but I think they're worth a listen for the ideas.

Um, but we're...

I think, uh, my, uh, Jenko and I are gonna go through, um, a Guardians list, 'cause we mentioned that we think Guardians are a, a great place to start.

And, uh, we're gonna go through what we would build if we were a beginner in the game of MCP right now, go through the tactics cards that we would bring and why, and then talk about what crises we're gonna bring and why.

Um, and I, I had an old...

I probably still build lists this way, but not everybody does it this way.

I generally will think about, "Oh, what's a character I wanna play?" And then I go, "This is a character that I wanna play.

Where am I gonna play them?" And then I m- and then I try and build a core around that character.

So, um, way back in the day, my, my original core for Guardians was Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot.

When I wanted to play some Defenders, I was like, "Spider-Man, I'm gonna play ASM every game." And my core was like ASM, Daredevil, and Crimson Dynamo.

Um, and then I try and think about which characters do I wanna build, and then I try and how do I meet, um, each threat level outside of that with my, with my remaining, you know, six or seven characters.

And then also try and have some flexibility with that.

I might have my game plan where I wanna be fighting on tight maps, so what, what, what helps me excel with that? But then if I'm forced onto something wider, what are my flex pieces that I can bring with my core that opens up that game plan for me? Uh, do you have a similar kind of process when you're, you're considering your list, or do you go in another way?

Well, it's like I can't think it on that many levels yet.

I really can't.

Like, I'm not able to grasp all the things I might have to do.

Uh, because a lot of it I just haven't faced yet, you know? And that's the beginner's, um, challenge, is that you haven't faced all the lists and you haven't even faced all the crisis combinations.
