What does that kind of demographics in the classroom look like on a daily basis as far as what you're dealing with?

Well, primarily speaking, the majority of my students are minorities.

Many have no interest in college.

More often than not, legislators look to answers in the classroom, like they either throw money at it or they attempt to try and analyze the situation without looking at, as sociologist Henri Lefebvre would say, the totality of what is going on in the fact that many of my students are in foster care.

They have itinerant lifestyles where they could be in my high school one month, then across the city another month, then back at the high school again.

this does happen, then also you have students that are supporting families.

They literally are working 40 hour a week jobs on top of trying to go to high school.

And it's up to individual educators like ourselves to find space within our own work to be able to counter the effects of this rigid bureaucracy.
