Michelle Michael

Oct 13, 2026

13:59
Go ahead, Michele.
14:02
So what I can tell you what we saw firsthand, uh, was really, really incredible, that we went to Buck Island Ranch.
14:08
It's in, in Florida in the heart of the Everglades, and, um, it's a quite unique place because you have ranchers working alongside ecologists, and I think, um, those two, um, professions have been [laughs] typically at odds.
14:25
At this place, they're actually working side by side and, and doing some pretty incredible research there.
14:31
Um, they've been doing research for years, and ultimately, they have these high-tech, uh, towers and different measuring devices, and they're able to measure the methane that cows make, and then also the grazing that the cows do on the land, which helps to, to capture carbon.
14:47
And at the end of their research, and they're still doing a lot more right now as we speak, but at the end of their research, they were able to demonstrate that they were able to capture more carbon than what the cows emit.
15:00
And, um, this is still pretty early in research, but when you look at places where, um, potentially improvements could be made in like climates, there is hope that some of those models could be, um, used in other locations.

8 MINS LATER

22:46
Hmm.
6:54
I caught up with co-directors Michelle Michael and Brandon Whitworth to talk about why and where the film takes us.
7:01
I can start there.
7:02
You know, this idea really was five years in the making.
7:08
Brandon and I come from the world of journalism.
7:11
So our backgrounds are as journalists.
7:14
We have a combined couple decades experience working in that world.
7:19
But for the last decade or so, we've been traveling, telling agricultural stories, unique stories around the globe about farmers and ranchers doing things that are unique in the name of sustainability.

5 MINS LATER

12:54
What else was there in that set that was universal across the planet?
1:46
But at the end of the day, it's, you know, get on the plane, land, get in a car, drive a couple hours, shoot, shoot, shoot, get back on the plane and say, was I just in Kenya? Like, what just happened? So I've now been to Ireland, I don't know, five or six times for various little projects.
2:03
Yeah, most recently, our actual last stop in filming the documentary was, in fact, right here in Ireland.
2:10
But before we go into that, I want to give you a little bit of background on us, because I think it's really important to let whoever's watching this or listening to this to truly understand where we come from in this process.
2:24
So this documentary is very much our first rodeo.
2:28
We've never made a feature documentary before.
2:30
This is our first go at this.
2:33
And combined, Brandon and I come from a couple decades of experience working in the world of journalism.
5:34
I was just wondering if you can kind of talk me through that in the earlier stages of your career.
