Margot Robbie

Australian actress and film producer

May 28, 2026

2:19
... what kind of conversations did the two of you have about creating, uh, the story for, for 2026?
2:26
She, well, Emerald, the genius that she is, uh, gave us a heads-up that she was writing this, I think while we were still doing Saltburn.
2:31
And there is no question of, like, oh, what...
2:34
It's f- you just know it's gonna be brilliant.
2:37
There is, the, it's...
2:38
And Emerald, unlike most people, gives you a fully formed, completely ready-to-go script when she gives you a script.
2:47
It's like all you have to do as a producer is, you know, go and start prepping, really.

I was like, "Wow, he's improvising.
38:59
Okay, shit." Um, and, and so I thought, "Okay, I didn't do very good in that scene," I think 'cause I was, you know, playing catch-up a little bit.
39:06
And I thought, "Oh, God, I'm getting thrown out of this room in, like, 30 seconds.
39:09
Like, I've got 30 seconds to make an impression, 'cause we are, like...
39:13
They- This is not impressive so far." And so I was like, "Okay, forget the lines, just go off script," and just, I just thought, "I'm just gonna use, like, every swear word I know."

33 MINS LATER

72:33
[upbeat music] SmartLess.
72:35
[upbeat music] Cash now, more later from Opendoor gives you cash upfront for your home, plus all the profit later.
7:02
Why is she such a fascinating character once you got to know her?
7:06
She is fascinating because she, she rebranded w- the role of a queen, and she did it in a very clever way.
7:13
She was the first person to really franchise her image and have that kind of brand perception that I guess seems like a very r- current thing, but, uh, you know, she was doing it back then.
7:22
She would send out, you know, needlepoint templates of her face so that people could stitch it at home and have it...
7:28
You know, she rebranded herself as the Virgin Queen so that she wouldn't have to get married.
7:33
Getting married meant handing over your power to another man.
7:36
Getting married meant you'd have to deliver a male heir very shortly afterwards, and if you weren't, like her mom didn't, maybe your life was in danger because of that.

9 MINS LATER

16:25
Is there any message in the context of today about that, about strong women being undermined by men?
8:09
I wondered what you hope people take away from this particular adaptation.
8:14
I think people are gonna, for one thing, I think people are gonna be astonished by the visuals.
8:17
It's breathtaking to watch.
8:20
And the music, like we talked about, is just unbelievable.
8:24
And this mashup between the Charlie XCX music and this classical score that Anthony so beautifully composed.
8:30
And then this story, I mean, it's just one for the ages.
8:32
We're still obsessed with it two centuries later almost.

16:35
And then when we were like, we, she, Greta was like, "I've got an idea.
16:39
Let's ask Emerald to be the permanently pregnant Barbie in Barbie," um, because of that.
16:43
And, you know, they, they, you know, like, love each other and, and, and so Emerald...
16:49
And we were shooting Saltburn right as we wrapped Barbie.
16:52
And so my first AD, who was Andy, our first AD on Wuthering too, would be calling me being like, "We've got to do tech checks, and you've got Emerald coming in to be this pregnant Barbie.
17:01
Like, this is, we need to be prepping Saltburn."

10:29
Andrew, who by the way, is not only a brilliant stylist, but he's a history major, so he really...
10:36
You know, when we do these press tours, um, you know, he really, really does his research, and he...
10:43
You know, I was wearing Elizabeth Taylor's necklace, which is a lot of amazing, romantic history linked into it.
10:50
So he likes to kind of go deep and find meaning and be able to really tell a story in the outfits, which I love and appreciate so much.
10:57
But to go back to the Schiaparelli, so it was a custom Schiaparelli couture gown, and the intention was, like, how do you make a dress look like Wuthering Heights? And so knowing that in the film we have this red lacquered floor in one of our biggest sets, we knew that they were gonna have either a red carpet, but we were hoping they would recreate the red lacquered floor as our red carpet at the premiere.
11:19
So Andrew wanted it to feel like it was kind of soaking up the floor and, and almost absorbing it into the dress, which is the effect that it has.

7 MINS LATER

18:48
I know in your Vogue Australia cover story, um, you're saying that, um, you told Jacob that it took you, like, a while to find Cathy, and that kind of freaked you out, and I wonder if you could tell us a, a bit more about that phase of before you played her.
