Why that decision?
0:42
Yes, a few days ago, the Premier as well as the MEC would have launched an information system, an advanced modernized digital system.
0:53
that is going to speed up the processes of compliance and also break the back of the backlogs of operating licenses.
1:05
So the industry would have engaged us to say their members are finding it very difficult to upload such statutory requirements and they've requested that they be workshopped at a process of awareness and broader processes of awareness being undertaken by the department together with themselves.
1:28
So it's not necessarily suspending, it's just relaxing it on the chiptree side only.
1:34
When members are applying manually, the legal requirements still are, because we cannot suspend processes of law What has happened is that in terms of the information system that is newly launched, because of members finding it difficult to upload certain statutory requirements, we then took a decision to say, okay, maybe let's give it a bit of time, let's give it some six months.

What are your thoughts? Why are they being asked to have permits under these circumstances? And what is, I suppose, your solution to this matter?
15:21
Thank you very much, Aubrey, and good evening to your guests.
15:26
and to the listeners.
15:28
Yeah, I think I caught a glimpse of what the gentleman was contributing on.
15:35
But just to say that the e-hailing services or any person who transports passengers in exchange of revenue or for exchange for a fee is obligated to operate under the National Land Transport Act and therefore has got to possess what we call an operating license.
16:00
Now, the e-hailing sector, so to say, from 2001, post the 2010 World Cup, was operating with charter permits and Nita Taxi operating license.
16:21
But there was... a clear perspective to work towards amending the NLTA, which was signed into law by the President, I think, in 2025, and posted that there had been processes whereby the regulations had to be done by the Minister, and currently the Department is undertaking workshops.
