Uh, when, when was the first time you guys heard that there was, something had happened, something, something had gone wrong?

I heard it at the newspaper where I worked, and, um, a reporter said this two-year-old had died, and h- uh, he was a victim of shaken baby syndrome.

Well, you know, how d- how did they know that? And, um...

Following day.

And, uh, I said, "Well, what was the sitter's name?" And she said, "Marsha Mills," and, uh...

Well, actually, she said Marsha Vaughn, because she was married to my brother for 22 years.

I just, I, I just, I just was, uh, emotional, and I...

I'm a copy editor and an editor, and, uh, I had to hand it off to, uh, other people.

What do you remember of that first meeting with him?

[laughs] Oh, boy.

He's weird.

[laughs] That's all I could think.

[gentle music] Course, and he asked me what planet I was from, and there's a better life there on the astro-plane, and all this sorta stuff, and I was just really taken back 'cause I thought, "What are you talking about?"

It felt like maybe there was a little more light through the door to Chantelle's life, like maybe things might settle into some sort of normal.

She was talking to us more and telling us a few more things.

It felt like it was a bit more like a normal relationship and, and family-type situation, but yeah, little did we know that it sorta wasn't.
