How important are these details as investigators try to understand why he would do something like this?
39:07
Yeah, Laura, just horrific to hear these, uh, little ones being interviewed on television with their parents' permission.
39:12
They should never have to, to, to talk about anything like that.
39:15
But the police now have like a 10,000-piece jigsaw puzzle with about 4,000 pieces missing.
39:21
These are these types of cases.
39:23
So these data points of him being a former special needs student and also attending that school are some things they'll have to marry up with some of the evidence they're collecting, some of the interviews from the, uh, witnesses, and the interviews from the associates and the relatives of this shooter.
39:38
So they've got a lot of search warrants out there.
40:03
Tell me about these pieces in trying to look at his digital footprint.
3:32
When you hear that timeline, what do those details reveal to you about possible premeditation?
3:40
Well, that's the question that the Bend Police, the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office are gonna answer.
3:45
It certainly seems like they had a plan, and they were determined to get through there by going in, shooting the glass out allegedly, and then making entry.
3:53
And then fortunately, that, uh, concealed carry person was there to eliminate the threat.
3:58
And, you know, Boris, no matter what we say here tonight, nothing's gonna ease the pain of these families that have lost their loved ones and their teachers.
4:04
But having said all that, these teachers, these drills I think that we go through as students these days, here in Bend tonight probably saved a few more lives because they were locked down.
4:14
They made it harder for the shooter to get th- before that concealed carry permit could, uh, person could come and eliminate that threat.
8:01
I, I wonder if you think that that person is someone that officials are, are zeroing in on tonight and, and getting their view of what happened.
83:25
But what we do know, according to the officials there on the ground, is that the shooter had already been shot and killed inside the school when police arrived at the scene at around 1 p.m. What does that tell you, Jason?
83:42
One, it tells me that somehow he did get in there like Steve was saying, and that's a separate question.
83:47
But more importantly, who stopped him and when and how long? So it seems like it was only three minutes before he got into before he was eliminated from the time the call went into 911.
83:58
these drills, Pamela, probably have saved lives today here in Bend.
84:02
These lockdown drills, these things that we do harden these targets as bad as, you know, we hate to hear about this and as much innocence as it robs from our children sometimes.
84:11
I think today we've seen the result of that saving lives.
84:14
It could have been much worse.
87:15
They are on the front lines and they are often the heroes in these school shootings.
15:14
What is the news media? I mean, the free press, what is their fear of engaging with these types of stories? Because to me, this is like this is the whole ballgame, regardless if you're right, left or center.
15:26
I agree with everything that you said, except the slight focus on Israel, because I think that the Russians from the epstein network as well as um other nefarious actors and our own cia probably but yes you're right i'm an anti-conspiratorialist and i've had on my podcast the very interesting austrian writer julia ebner talking about the psychology of these you know extreme right misogynist and conspiratorial and q anon style people And the key thing is not to dismiss them because to some extent they were onto something that we were burying our heads in the sand about.
16:08
Epstein is the real deal.
16:10
I interviewed on the Disorder podcast Andrew Loney, who is the Sunday Times bestselling author of the biography of Prince Andrew.
16:19
And it showcases how Epstein systematically played on Andrew's low self-esteem and desire for attractive younger women to boost He knew he was never going to be king and essentially entrapped him.
16:33
And he used other methods to entrap others, Bill Gates, probably also Bill Clinton, certainly Dershowitz, definitely, you know, Les Wexner.
16:44
So many, many people got entrapped, some Jews, some non-Jews, some with the contrivance of Israel, some with the contrivance of Russia, some with the contrivance of the CIA.

8 MINS LATER

24:40
Where do you kind of see the future of the globe in this environment? You know, have United States in their overestimated the power that they've had in the past, or do you think they had it in the past and now it's going to be a much different future?

14:58
You might as well sleep like it.
15:02
It depends on how much information they have.
15:04
And in a case like this where they're leaving those stone unturned, they likely have, again, terabytes of information to go through.
15:11
And it's not just the one.
15:12
They had those initial round of search warrants that they executed, got the returns from it.
15:18
it can take several weeks to get information back from data providers, whether that's social media, telephone, any of those types of things.
15:26
It's not that easy to get.

47 MINS LATER

62:05
But what is your take on these ransom notes? Are they real or are they not real? Was the FBI doing some kind of course correction with a possible statement that came out there?
10:56
But I mean, what's going on with them five months into this? Are they still like crunching numbers, getting digital? I mean, when they go to the office today at AMC, headquarters in phoenix or wherever they're based out of the cast team uh is this a job that continues day in day out are they continuing to process all this uh data how long does it take
11:21
uh it depends on how much information they have and in a case like this where they're leaving those stone unturned they likely have again terabytes of information to go through and it's not just the one they had those initial round of search warrants that they executed got the returns from it it can take several weeks to get information back from data providers, whether that's social media, telephone, any of those types of things, it's not that easy to get.
11:48
There are emergency disclosures that they can get to get the last few days of records, but going back as far as they probably are going back a few months to kind of see if there are patterns of Is individual devices in neighborhoods or is there a device at Walmart that was at the neighborhood and you're buying that backpack? So there are different combinations of things that they're trying to look at by comparing similarities and then excluding things by things that don't show up in there.
12:16
So I think when they get up and go, it's actually at the Tucson Resident Agency out of the Phoenix offices where most of this work is going on.
12:23
The FBI has a permanent presence there.
12:26
I was there during the Gabby Giffords shooting working out of that resident agency.
12:30
So there's some good folks there.

46 MINS LATER

58:24
But what is your take on these ransom notes? Are they real or are they not real? Was the FBI doing some kind of course correction with a possible statement that came out there?
83:03
Mm.
83:04
And even the letter said, "There's nothing you could have done." Now, you know, if you can't, uh, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime, right? So, like, whether or not they meant to happen, it did happen.
83:13
And just think about it.
83:14
They're sitting on the biggest secret in the world right now.
83:18
The pressure that they must feel, uh, to keep that a secret, who's gonna be the one to crack first, if it's more than one person.
83:24
There's a lot of group dynamics there that, uh, uh, eventually the pressure might cause someone to, to break on that.
83:31
So if you do see people around and they're acting differently and you think they may be involved and their behavior changes or just things are, don- don't seem right with them and they were w- you know, in that area, then that's something you might wanna call the FBI or the Pima County Sheriff's Office and say, "Like, hey, this just doesn't seem right." It may be nothing.

9 MINS LATER

93:15
[laughs]
71:16
Mm.
71:17
And even the letter said, "There's nothing you could have done." Now, you know, if you can't, uh, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime, right? So, like, whether or not they meant to happen, it did happen.
71:26
And just think about it.
71:27
They're sitting on the biggest secret in the world right now.
71:30
The pressure that they must feel, uh, to keep that a secret, who's gonna be the one to crack first, if it's more than one person.
71:37
There's a lot of group dynamics there that, uh, eventually the pressure might cause someone to, to break on that.
71:44
So if you do see people around, and they're acting differently, and you think they may be involved, and their behavior changes, or just things are, don't, don't seem right with them, and they were w- you know, in that area, then that's something you might wanna call the FBI or the Pima County Sheriff's Office and like, "Hey, this just doesn't seem right." It may be nothing.

9 MINS LATER

81:28
[laughs]
44:51
How key could a, a geneal- genealogy service, a genealogical service such as 23andMe or ancestry.com, how example could be this to cracking open the case?
45:03
Well, I think it's gonna be really important, Jake.
45:05
Even FBI squads and field offices around the country have a person dedicated to this particular tactic.
45:11
So the FBI Phoenix division has somebody that does investigative genealogy.
45:16
Uh, so does larger field offices like Los Angeles.
45:18
So they could call in as much help as they need to beco- to come and start, uh, the process here.
45:24
I've a- been told that they've already been doing this for several days, so they're well ahead of the process.
46:57
If the DNA from the house does show up in CODIS, what could that tell us?
44:44
Our sources are stressing this person has not been charged tonight, but I wonder what stands out to you as we're learning this new information.
44:54
Well, Caitlin, what stands out is just the remarkable work earlier of the Operational Technology Division engineers and scientists in there putting this stuff from the slack together to be able to get and release this photograph tonight to lead to where we are now.
45:08
So just in a matter of hours, similar to when we flipped the posters over at the Boston Marathon bombing on stage there, we flipped those posters around.
45:16
Within a couple of hours, they started to feel the pressure.
45:20
They unfortunately murdered an MIT officer and then tried to kidnap a person before they wound up in Watertown.
45:26
Similarly, it seems like some people are feeling that pressure tonight.
45:29
At least there's a lead where this person that may have been detained, maybe we all hope it's the person, but even if it's not, it's somebody that may know him.
8:38
As a professional hostage negotiator, you know what, how, what is the best way to handle this?
8:45
Well, Sean, I think the family handled it exactly correctly.
8:48
You have to treat it like it's real, even though it doesn't fit any statistical patterns that may pop up.
8:54
So the family did exactly the right thing.
8:55
They worked with the FBI's, uh, Crisis Negotiation Unit and the negotiators there from the Tucson RA, uh, to craft these messages to see if anybody would come back in.
9:05
And so when that didn't happen, as Nicole mentioned earlier, I've been on the, uh, work...
9:09
I've been in these command posts where I've been the one working on these alternative theories and working on the, not the shiny object that everybody else is pursuing, but these other alternative theories, and you've seen the results of that today.
12:45
Jason?
3:09
What are you hearing in that press conference we heard earlier that strikes you?
3:15
Good morning ma'am and first our condolences to Officer Islam and his family and certainly the victims that were affected by this.
3:21
So what's interesting from the press conference last night is the things that they found in the double parked car outside is your John Miller and others reported last night.
3:30
Those medication bottles were key and the note or key pieces of evidence that investigators found at the NYPD there to kind of answer this question of why.
3:40
Like certainly we're trying to make rational thoughts out of irrational behavior that the suspect is done.
3:45
But just knowing that now the NFL was presumed to be the target kind of at least leads you in a direction where investigators can focus more.
3:54
So what are we doing? Likely now already is going back to Las Vegas to the residents there.
5:36
Sort of what is your view when you look at this?
