Why are they saying this, your former friends?

Um, well, you know, I mean, it is easier to say I'm mad than to admit that they have ignored one of the biggest social changes in history, and one of the biggest medical scandals in history, and one of the greatest attacks on women's rights in history.

You know, they have deliberately looked the other way while people like J.K. Rowling have been attacked, while people like Maya Forstater, the Darlington nurses, uh, Jennifer Melly, um, uh, Helen Joyce, you know, all these people have been subjected to the most appalling harassment by trans activists.

But rather than standing up for them, rather than saying, "Hey, this isn't right," they have actually allowed, uh, this abuse to continue for over a decade because they're both cowards.

Louis Theroux is, you know, I mean, w- the thing that amuses me about Louis is that he made this kind of impassioned mea culpa after Jimmy Savile, saying, "Oh, I should've, I should have seen what he was.

I should have known.

I was-"

'Cause he did that big documentary on him, didn't he, and, uh, interviewed him?

What were they?

Father Ted was the main one.

Father Ted actually was so influential that they say it had, it had a little bit to do with the, the Irish, Irish church releasing its hold in the '90s on, on Ireland, you know? Um, just because we weren't as very satirical.

We were very silly.

We were always a surreal and silly show.

And so that had more effect.

Something I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I d- I am in two minds about now [laughs].

Well, you know, I think the police were very wise not to want to drag this out in the courtroom because it would have exposed various forces at the moment in modern policing in the UK that... uh they're really in need of reform you know um the uh belief in gender ideology which seems to have kind of uh swept through uh the entire police force uh the feeling that um people in the uk need to be controlled their speech controlled rather than uh listened to and understood you know, it would have been a nightmare for the police.

And I think that at the moment, the police are in something of a crisis state.

I think morale is very low.

And it's jumping to, I would say, jumping to the aid of very dangerous trans activists that is causing that kind of fall in morale, you know?

What has it got to do with Brits, really, apart from someone here who was offended by what you wrote on your Twitter account?

yeah well you know what i'm not sure if those those timings are actually quite right i may have been back in the uk for andrew doyle's wedding um so uh when i when i tweeted when i tweeted that but let me let me just adjust the framing slightly on the question um one of the things that i got into trouble for was a thing where i said if any man enters into a female only space he is an abusive man and And it's very important for the police to say they understand that if a man enters a female-only space, according to the recent Supreme Court decision, he's breaking the law.

And the police don't seem to understand this.

I mean, what, what do you make of that? What do you make of the apology and everything that's happened since?

Well, [sighs] I gotta be careful 'cause I can't say too much about it, but we're, we're suing the police for wrongful arrest.

Um, and you know, uh, trespassing over my rights and all that.

Um, so I have to be a little bit cautious.

But I will say that my, my lawyer's communications with the police kind of show that they have really no idea what, what the problem is.

You know, they think, they think that, um, you know, the, the policeman as he arrested me saying the words, uh, assigned at birth r- you know, which is activist language.

They don't understand why that's activist language.

Do, do you see a change potentially in, in the world with everything that's going on with Jeffrey Epstein and all the files and such? Do, do you see something changing there in terms of people becoming a bit more awake and aware?

Yeah.

And people would be like, "Yeah, of course, women need fair sports.

What's the, uh, what, what, what's going on?" And so, you know, then I wrote my book, uh, in which I explained the whole argument and, uh, explained that, you know, my family had been doxxed.

My, my, my...

I'd been visited by the police multiple times.

I'd been-- I've never been out of litigation since I started this because a trans-identified nutjob keeps suing me.

And, um, and I thought, "Well, uh, you know, now I've explained it.

... and it's been negative for them.

What actually happened to you and how did it make you feel?

Well, you know, I was just saying things that people have said for a hundred years, you know, since the suffragettes won, you know, rights for women, that women need single sex spaces and they deserve fair sports and men have certain advantages that, you know, women don't have.

And that should be taken into account when, you know, talking about things like sports.

And it was just considered the most offensive thing that I could have said.

And I was saying things that I knew my friends agreed with.

We'd all just assumed all this stuff to be true for our whole lives.

And yet, rather than kind of... backing me up and saying graham isn't saying anything weird here i was just kind of abandoned you know and uh i would i would speak to people i would just say you know will you just say you know just something along the lines of women deserve fair sports and of course it's not a mad opinion and i absolutely refused you know people would refuse and it was like i couldn't understand that and and it was only after being so completely monstered and frozen out of my business and, you know, comedy writing and so on, that I kind of realized no one was gonna, no one was coming along, you know? So in the end, I had to write a freaking book to explain my position because it's so often um uh it's so often misinterpreted or deliberately misconstrued uh i've had i'm fond of saying this because it's it's so extraordinary to me 75 plus hit pieces written about me by by pink news you know And it's just an attempt to destroy my reputation because I don't agree with what I think is a very regressive, homophobic and most of all misogynistic set of beliefs.

you know, can you not just stop talking about it?

The least you could do if you're in that position is not to throw other people under the bus who are braver than you, you know? So my, whenever people come out, I just, I add them to a little list and I say, okay, you, I can talk about you now.

I can tell people everything I think about you, you know? I know that feeling.

Yeah.

You wait for somebody to write about you.

Yeah.

Okay, we'll get all the

cobwebs out now, all the truths.

But, you know, what's worse is with people like Bill Bailey, you know.

First of all, how do you feel about what went down in the, the verdict there?

Uh, you know, very good.

I'd, I'd been targeted by this group of men, uh, most recently including Sophie, for about, uh, 10 years now, so it's nice to draw more attention to them.

I'm hoping that finally the police will start investigating the men, these men who have been harassing, not just me, but, but, but dozens of women across the country.

Um, getting them arrested, suing them.

Uh, you know, these are, these are basically a criminal gang and the, and the UK police, for some reason, are working for them and, and, you know, the police have gone from being terrified of being called institutionally racist to, uh, to being institutionally misogynist, you know? And I, I'm, I'm, it's annoying that I had to go through all this, but I'm glad it's bringing more attention to, uh-

The problem is the, the media, uh, landscape, which just, uh, has it all locked down, so you cannot talk about these things.

There's a guy who just brought out a book.I think it's called Vandalizing, uh, Ireland, I think is the name of it.

And, uh, he writes about all this, and it's just not being stocked in bookshops like my memoir was.

My memoir was hidden in bookshops and stuff like this.

I love blood pudding.

I would like to see people come together a bit more because we still are a great country and a great people, wherever we come from, whatever our backgrounds.

The arrest of comedy writer Graham Linehan has become a global controversy, heaping further scrutiny on what many people believe to be a troubling erosion of free speech rights in the UK.

Linehan was arrested by five armed police after arriving at Heathrow Airport on a flight from the US, over posts on social media which had been reported for inciting violence against transgender people.

Graham Linehan's currently back in the US, from where he joins me now.

You're now back in the United States after what can best be described as a pretty turbulent trip to the UK.

But d- but do you think your marriage would've survived if you hadn't had this battle with the trans activists?

It was with more risk when you first started speaking about it.

Oh, yeah.

It, it was, uh, instant.

Yeah, I, I was canceled instantly.

I shared an article that was, uh, you know, very, um, compassionate and about both sides of the debate, uh, written by a, a, a brilliant woman over here called Heather Brunskill-Evans.

And I actually shared it when I was in my hospital bed, uh, uh, and I think possibly because I was coming out of a operation, and I was a bit giddy on morphine, and I remember thinking to myself, "Why am I so scared to get into this debate?" You know? There's no...

It's, it's clearly correct.
