So I'm a member of the Round Valley tribes in California.

I grew up in California, close to the ocean, so I really developed a relationship with the ocean from early childhood, and it became a focus for me.

In fact, I, like many people, uh, who didn't actually do it, I did consider doing oceanography at one point.

[chuckles] I think someone made a joke about that yesterday.

But, uh, so I moved up to Washington State 22 years ago and ended up finishing up my e- education there, and then went to work for a tribe and, uh, in the capacity of external affairs and government relations ultimately.

We know this is knowledge that we receive by inheritance, and it's knowledge that must be shared with others and that must be shared in order for us to help, uh, you know, navigate and confront the, the challenges facing not just indigenous peoples, but all of humanity.
