How do you think it impacts the training process to be like the favored team to win a certain medal? Do you think it adds more pressure? I
19:13
think it definitely adds more pressure.
19:15
I think external expectations are just something that are really hard to shake off.
19:24
Like we always want to have no expectations, but I feel like it's almost humanly impossible to not have some form of expectation, especially when you're competing and you're being judged and you walk away with like a numerical placement.
19:36
I finished first, I finished third.
19:38
So, you know, if you start to finish first and then next competition, you kind of don't want to go backwards.
19:44
You expect to finish first.

What do you hope to accomplish in that role?
21:51
What were some of the things, the actions you took to get you to that feeling when you stepped on the ice?
21:56
I think failing was a big part of it.
21:58
We had failed before.
22:00
Even at the Olympics in 2018, we completely failed.
22:05
belly flopped in the middle, like right on the Olympic rings.
22:07
We found ourselves face down.
22:10
And I think going through that experience and then understanding that we can handle difficulty, we can handle failure, makes failure less scary.

They call it

Mm-hmm
9:27
... and to also trust, um, just to tr- to let go.
9:31
Like, when we first moved to Montreal, and we had new coaches, and they were, they completely approached our work in a completely different way and really respected us and gave us the space and, and the leadership.
9:42
But something that our coach kept saying to me was, "Let go.
9:45
Man, just, you need to let go," like, in a certain, a, a certain way, just kind of like release that grip and that hold of wanting control over everything.
9:54
So for me, I, I think the trust of letting the, uh, everyone around you play their role gives you the more power to play your own role.

I agree.
10:45
That's wonderful.
