... at Linda's house over meals.

She's just an amazing person and a, a fabulous person to sit at a dinner table with.

Um, but we got to be friends, and at one point, it, it seemed like maybe we would have some thoughts about doing this Peter Asher documentary, that Diana was so taken by the show he had put on.

And we asked Linda, and she said that she would check in with Peter.

She didn't think anything ever happened with the production.

And she did check in with Peter, and he said that, um, for whatever reason, the filmmaker, Cici Goldwater, had not pushed it beyond an initial shoot or two, and that Peter was going to come to San Francisco to, uh, this is December of 2019, to perform at Bimbo's 365 Club.

And how many people have that attitude?

You say, "What about that documentary?" Pick it up there.

Yeah.

Then, uh, Linda said that, told us that Peter was coming to town to perform, uh, his m- musical memoir of the '60s and beyond at Bimbo's 365 Club, and would we wanna go.

Uh, of course, uh, at that point, m- I was so curious as well.

And Dana and I had said to each other, and, and Dana's instincts are good about these things, so I said, "You know, if it, if it resonates with me also, then we should just arrange to ask him, um, after the show on the spot." Because Linda was coming to the theater.

At that point, she was a little bit more mobile.

Uh, and she had met with him ahead of time and just planted the seed that these two filmmakers who were making a movie about Leonard Cohen and the song Hallelujah would be there and had expressed, potentially expressed some interest.

And Dan, your parents?

So explain how Paul McCartney wrote a song that Peter and Gordon ended up singing.

So Jane Asher was a contest or a panelist on a show called Hit or Miss, where they would look at the week's new singles and then the little panel of celebrities would predict if it's a hit or a miss.

And so she was getting known as an actor, a young actor, and as a panelist.

And they sent her backstage.

A music person.

A music person.

And so they sent her backstage to cover one of the first big concerts from this band that had just come down from Liverpool.

James Taylor, what did he tell you in your interview with him about the influence that Peter Asher had on his sound, had it on his career?

So it's like is, is there a question in the material that we're about to dive into that it will keep us occupied and intellectually and emotionally engaged for a couple of years?

This story i- is, uh, just by virtue of the names alone is, is jaw-dropping and would sort of get a lot of attention.

But I mean, uh, w- for filmmakers, other filmmakers, documentary filmmakers who are thinking about this, in this case you had the idea, you had the show, y- maybe let's go film the, the concert, the, the cabaret.

Do you self-finance until it basically sells? Um, is this one that you were able to kind of get financing for upfront? I mean, how, how long do you pour your own money or o- other than your time, um, into it before you have to kind of then l- l- look for support and, uh, uh, because it, it, people don't understand how hard it is.

I mean, not as it just-
