What's new with the Kansas State Fair in 2026 compared to maybe previous editions of the Kansas State Fair?

Well, you know, this year we're celebrating some really big milestones here at the Kansas State Fair.

First off, 250 years of America.

And that is something that we're really, really highlighting here at the Kansas State Fair, from the ribbons to the layout to the big slide even got a facelift this year, and it's red, white, and blue.

So that's going to be amazing.

It's also fair kicks off on 9-11, and it is the 25th anniversary of 9-11 this year.

So we are going to be highlighting...

What's it like being a part of the Kansas State Fair to you? What does it mean to you to be a part of this thing?

And how long does the process for a proposal for change usually take?

Ooh, that's tough, because it all depends on, there's a lot of different things that can impact how long it takes.

Some of it is, do we need to do research? Do we need a bunch of data? Other stuff is, we look at it and go, wow, that's kind of obvious.

Yeah, that needs to be changed.

And that one is going to be pretty quick as far as getting it approved for the next version release.

And again, that also depends on when we get it, when we make the change.

Are we already past our cutoff for the next release? It'll be the one after that.

trying out some of these ideas or I don't want to say beta testing, but maybe pre-release tests and things like that?

He turned it down?

Yeah, I turned it down just to do this, just to grind front route.

Scholarship and everything.

I think it was, like, in Jacksonville.

Yeah, a big, a big band in Jacksonville.

It's a big college though.

Um, those are all infants that are at risk.

To dovetail off what Mitchell was saying, you think about these red flags that oftentimes can be in the history or the physical examination, and Mitchell mentioned you always wanna think about the developmental mental capabilities of the patient.

So certainly, the mother saying that this three-month-old rolled off the bed would certainly pique my antenna and raise some red flags.

The other thing you always wanna think about, um, are the injuries sustained Congruent with the his-the history that's provided.

So certainly if a child has extremely severe, uh, and multiple traumatic injuries, and the only injury mechanism that is told to you or, or, or, or is some very minor mechanism, like certainly that should also raise some red flags too.

And oftentimes, I think sometimes even the more difficult population is the children who come in with no reports of trauma.

They don't come in with any, um, any, with any traumatic chief complaints at all, and they come in just with fussiness or just with vomiting, with no diarrhea, or just with, you know, a, a bruisy, you know, maybe an APNIC event and nothing else, and there's no traumatic mechanism proffered in those cases.

But you have to certainly have on kind of your forefront of your forebrain the idea that you don't wanna miss a kid that's presenting a little bit differently, um, because that could be a child that potentially is harmed because we didn't make that diagnosis.
