I wanted to ask you, what role do you see that surgeons have in sustainability? And what should the surgeon do if there's no sustainability officer in their institution?
23:21
So the answer is yes, there's absolutely a role for surgeons, um, to lead in this space.
23:26
And I think the mechanisms for that might depend a little bit on your individual institution, but I think there are a lot of different potential pathways to make a difference as a surgeon, um, within an institution.
23:37
Some changes can be made within kind of the leadership structure of your department or your, your operating room kind of leadership teams.
23:46
Um, for instance, there might be some changes around the way that red bag waste is collected and segregated, or there may be some changes that you can make around, um, depending on your institution.
23:57
You know, maybe there's an inventory of commonly wasted, uh, components of a surgical kit that you can, um You know, say we, we can avoid purchasing these items or avoid putting them in the surgical kit in the first place if they're just gonna be thrown away.
24:10
So there's like some data collection and maybe some waste management practices or kind of OR-specific practices, maybe collecting data around, um, anesthetic gas use in collaboration with anesthesia colleagues.
