10:21
Do you mind sharing just a little peek into what those look like for you?
10:25
Absolutely.
10:26
So I take my morning ritual very, very seriously, and all of those things I do in the morning are what I consider my habits.
10:36
And I actually even have a habit tracker.
10:39
I have a coach that I check in with weekly, and sh- I have to send her my tracker every single day.
10:45
And the reason for that is because I was getting very lazy.
10:48
I'm, I'm very, uh, sometimes with habits I'm not as consistent as I want to be, so I had to bring in reinforcements.

14 MINS LATER

24:24
Um, are there any other habits that you think for people that are entrepreneurs, starting businesses might wanna consider? You know, again, we said earlier we're not prescribing here, but maybe some that you would say, "Hey, these are worth thinking about."
12:12
So can we talk about Unbossing?
12:15
Yes.
12:15
What does that mean? I almost named the book Unbossing.
12:19
Instead of two weeks notice, I thought this is what I need to name it.
12:22
But then it's like people would not know what I meant until I explained it.
12:24
So I thought that's not a good name.
12:26
So this concept of unbossing is knowing or believing that you have the capability to lead yourself.

7 MINS LATER

19:06
So talk a little bit more about being authentic because I think that you've done a really nice job of kind of taking, especially, you know, on social media, away the sort of polished and being real, you know? Yes.
3:41
How did you land it? I think one of the things that a lot of our audience is, how do you get these dream opportunities? How did you land this? Do you remember?
3:51
Harley-Davidson, it was at a dealership level, so I marketed for several dealerships in a town that I lived in.
3:58
And I remember, I don't remember the book, I don't remember the details, but I do remember finding a book of how to get a job in a different way, meaning it's not apply to a job, send a resume.
4:09
It was essentially find the person that is going to be hiring you, do a lot of research, write a really cool letter that's different than a resume, and find a way to get it to them.
4:20
And so I don't remember all the particulars, but I do remember doing it differently.
4:24
I'm always looking for ways to stand out or grab someone's attention, which I do now in online marketing every single day.
4:31
But that's how I landed the marketing job at Harley-Davidson.

35 MINS LATER

40:03
How do you cope with that? And did you need to go through some mindset exercises or imposter syndrome, self-doubt? I mean, they all come in when you're growing.
12:34
... where would you invest your time right now?
12:37
Podcasting, a million percent.
12:40
So to me, my podcast is the backbone of my business.
12:44
And as you mentioned, I've had a podcast since 2013 called Online Marketing Made Easy, and I've recently, uh, transitioned into the Amy Porterfield Show, which will be a lot of the same and then some new conversations and dig a little bit deeper and be more vulnerable and take people behind the scenes.
13:00
So though it will be better, but it's still an extension of what it was.
13:04
And I tell you that to say, I can't imagine building the business I have today without my podcast.
13:11
And the reason for that is, number one, uh, you get into somebody's ear and they walk around with you, they take you on workouts, they're cleaning the house, they're doing whatever, and all of a sudden they are so familiar with your voice that you meet them in real life at an event, they think you- they- you two are best friends.

9 MINS LATER

22:29
Even if they don't have a course right now, it's probably one of the best assets that they'll have down the road.
3:16
I'm like, "What the hell's going on?" So before we get into, like, webinars and events or whatever, what, what happened? Did you just have, like, like, an epiphany in the middle of the night? Why did you decide to change course? Uh, no pun intended.
3:30
Yeah, right? Well, it was a huge, big deal for me and a big decision.
3:35
So here's the thing.
3:36
Like you said, I have been, uh, promoting Digital Course Academy, or some version of it, uh, for many, many, many years, and it's been my bread and butter.
3:45
It put me on the map.
3:46
I'm known for it.
3:47
And then about a year ago I started to get this kind of knowing that something else was waiting for me.

7 MINS LATER

11:09
... is it the same topic every week? Every week, same topic.
3:47
Mm-hmm.
3:47
We love to switch it up, change things up, new offers, new prices, new whatever it is.
3:52
And I have noticed that the entrepreneurs that have really made it, that aren't just making a lot of money, but they are wealthy, number one, they have very few streams of revenue.
4:02
So we've been taught, at least I was, from very beginning-

34 MINS LATER

38:00
Mm-hmm.
38:00
And I let go of a lot of those things and just doubled down on building the online business, which was the best move I think I could have made.
38:08
Now I'm in a season of we're building our dream home.
38:11
So I am kind of just keeping my focus there, but once the dream home is done, I think I might go back into real estate-
12:26
Right.
12:27
But r- re- beyond that, yes, it surprised me, and then I took a beat, and I thought, "Okay, what is going on here?" And number one, I explained why I did it, and I'll, I'll explain a little bit.
12:37
I believe in this idea of earning your elevation, meaning doing the reps, staying in your lane-

40 MINS LATER

52:37
Correct
52:37
... about how I love being around women and getting influenced by women, but at the end of the day, if you kind of clear the mechanism...
52:43
What movie is that? It's from a movie.
52:45
But anyway, and just get really laser focused on what you want and who you are, you can always go with your gut.
52:51
Now, I think it takes time.
80:08
Yeah.
80:08
How much capacity for zero do you have? And what I mean by that is, are you willing to burn it all down? Are you willing to make less money, start with zero people on social media, and start with a business that you're not even sure if it's gonna work? Maybe you have a side hustle a little bit, but like you said, it's not filling up your full-time income.
81:51
Mm-hmm.
81:51
I chose the exit date, put it on a Post-It, put it on my mirror, and every single day I looked at that date.
81:57
And I said, "I'm doing this no matter what." Now, when you remind yourself every day that you're doing it and you visualize yourself going out on your own, being your own boss, you start to embody it.
82:07
What decisions do I need to make today to make this happen? How do I need to show up to make this happen?
9:54
What are subject line and preheader tactics that are like, Amy's like, okay, these are working.
9:59
Okay, so I really love the idea of the no preheader because you're right.
10:03
When you look in your inbox, it's so flooded, and then you see that little white space, and it just catches your eye.
10:09
So we've played around with that.
10:12
Also, we've noticed with subject lines, anything with a twist or something that, like you said, when I talked about giving zero Fs, I don't say anything.
10:22
I say the F word in real life, but I don't say it on my podcast or in my video.
10:26
So when they see that, they're like, that's a little different for Amy.
14:02
How do we feel about webinars?
32:22
So, take us there for a second, because I think just understanding these must-haves but also not letting society dictate the must-haves for you, I think is really, really important.
32:31
That's such another point.
32:33
I had a woman named Tara McMullin on my podcast, and she talked about what success looks like, and it's different for everybody.
32:42
And she says, "You think you should be doing something.
32:45
You think you have to be doing something.
32:46
This is the right way to do it." Says who? So like, taking out all those constraints and what you think you should be doing, what ultimately serves you.
32:56
And I love that message, and it's not a message that I was familiar with until recently, in terms of what that could look like.

6 MINS LATER

39:15
You were talking a little bit about the first few years getting the first clients, but also when you start scaling, that has its own challenges of, how do you scale and fear of money and, "What if I will go broke and now the expenses are really big?" How do you cope with that, and did you need to go through some mindset exercises or imposter syndrome, self-doubt? I mean, they all come in when you're growing.
8:04
Are you seeing good show up rates? Are there tricks to getting people to actually show up live?
8:09
Yes, absolutely.
8:10
And you have to put these strategies into place, whether they're the strategies I'm going to share or other strategies, you can't skimp on this part.
8:17
So whether you're in a boot camp or not, let's just say you're not doing the boot camp, you're doing the solo webinars.
8:22
Number one, I really do believe that you need to use text messaging.
8:27
And so we have tried this in different ways.
8:30
You kind of got to get used to what's going to work best for you.

9 MINS LATER

18:01
So it
