Alex McFarland

American orator and former president of the Southern Evangelical Seminary

Oct 11, 2026

9:20
But your first impressions of that statement?
9:23
Well, uh, and, and I'm glad that you delineate between the seminary and the church because, um, I would like to talk about both.
9:30
Months and months ago, I read every word of every page, every possible page and sub-page of the Austin Theological, uh, Seminary.
9:43
And as a minister myself, former seminary president myself, former pastor of a PCUSA church, interim pastor, but for three years, I'm well acquainted with the modern, you know, theological drift of the PCUSA, and by that I mean drift from classical Christian orthodoxy.
10:03
And so the seminary really prides itself on not having a doctrinal statement, and yet they, they say that they're grounded in the Presbyterian Reform tradition.
10:14
Without getting too much into the weeds, I mean, you know, generally churches that are reformed will say that they affirm the Westminster Confession or what we call confessional churches or creedal churches, which would comport with classical orthodoxy.
10:31
The biblical God is the one true God.

6 MINS LATER

16:32
And one of the things he said was, "God is not binary." Uh, what does that mean, and how does that strike you?
7:44
Well...
7:46
I really do, and I'm not just saying this, Bill.
7:50
I see a spiritual hunger that I've never really seen before, the degree of willingness to listen to the Word of God.
8:02
I will tell you, in the early 90s, when I was a full-time youth pastor up through the late 90s, You know, I had a lot of good youth in my youth groups.
8:13
But, you know, we played volleyball and nine square and devotions were pretty brief.
8:20
The attention span was not all that great sometimes.
8:24
And you better have some entertainment.

10 MINS LATER

18:16
And for a lot of kids, this is their opportunity to get out of their normal routine and environment and get in a place where they can possibly hear God's call and have a heartfelt response to Jesus.
61:39
But let's be honest, when you say the Ten Commandments under attack, really God's word is under attack.
61:44
Absolutely.
61:45
God's word is under attack.
61:46
But let me say it is absolutely constitutional and appropriate to tell young people about the Ten Commandments because it's the epistemic, I should say, philosophical foundation of the U.S. Constitution.
62:00
In fact, James Madison, who is called the chief architect of the U.S. Constitution, said that America is based on every person governing themselves according to God's Ten Commandments.
62:14
So showing the Ten Commandments in a public school room does not violate the non-establishment clause of the First Amendment.
62:22
It's not the establishment of religion, but it's reminding students about the morals that we all should live within.

And Roger
2:23
all right so last question is give us the quick version how did you end up spending your life defending your faith and teaching others to defend their faith
2:31
well when i was 21 and i was in college i started going to a bible study and i began to realize that jesus christ died on the cross for my sins and i could pray and ask christ to come into my life and he would forgive my sins at 21 I did that and became a follower of Jesus and five minutes into my Christian faith I was thinking about all my buddies at college and they probably did not know the Lord as far as I was aware and I was very much an introvert very shy still am kind of but I had to find out if they really knew about Jesus and And they had a lot of questions.
3:12
So I went to a Christian bookstore, got some books by a guy named Josh McDowell.
3:16
Yay.
3:17
People might know who Josh McDowell is.
3:20
And just I began to try in my own clunky, awkward little way.
3:26
I was trying to tell my buddies about Jesus.

12 MINS LATER

15:49
You don't have to be a Bible theologian.
2:27
How did you end up spending your life defending your faith and teaching others to defend their faith?
2:31
Well, when I was 21 and I was in college, I started going to a Bible study, and I began to realize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins, and I could pray and ask Christ to come into my life, and he would forgive my sins.
2:47
And at 21, I did that, and became a, a follower of Jesus.
2:52
And five minutes into my Christian faith, I was thinking about all my buddies at college, and they probably did not know the Lord as far as I was aware.
3:02
And I, I was very much an introvert, very shy, still am, kinda, but I had to find out if they really knew about Jesus.
3:10
And they had a lot of questions, so I went to a Christian bookstore, got some books by a guy named Josh McDowell, yay.
3:17
People might know who Josh McDowell is.

13 MINS LATER

16:03
[laughs]
32:21
I've been in Israel when they wake you up at five in the morning doing that, and that's not good.
32:26
It's not beautiful.
32:27
Obama was, frankly, I think a judgment on America.
32:33
The fact that he was allowed to become president.
32:36
Okay, Judges 5, verse 8, speaking of ancient Israel.
32:40
It says, Okay.
32:51
gods, little g, when they chose new gods.

14 MINS LATER

47:03
and the person acting in self-defense
32:21
I've been in Israel when they wake you up at five in the morning doing that, and that's not good.
32:26
It's not beautiful.
32:27
Obama was, frankly, I think a judgment on America.
32:33
The fact that he was allowed to become president.
32:36
Okay, Judges 5, verse 8, speaking of ancient Israel.
32:40
It says, Okay.
32:51
gods, little g, when they chose new gods.

14 MINS LATER

47:03
and the person acting in self-defense
6:15
Anna Paulina Luna, the congresswoman from Florida, equated him to our own Dr. Mengele.
6:21
Yeah, exactly.
6:23
You know, it's interesting.
6:26
We do a radio show that we've done for 16 years called Exploring the Word.
6:30
Then I'm also on another program called Truth and Liberty.
6:34
Exploring the Word is a Bible teaching show.
6:36
Truth and Liberty is a culture and political oriented show from a biblical worldview and a constitutional American worldview.

44 MINS LATER

50:18
uh and uh and it's imperative that the relationship between the churches its leadership uh and the american people uh is solid and sound and and the thing that i lose sleep over at night about this whole situation is that right there what are your thoughts on that on how how we as leaders in the community both as lay people like i am and as pastors like you uh can work to help repair that
12:29
How old were you at this
12:30
time? I would have been 17.
12:33
And I'm working for my dad.
12:35
I'm trying to go to college.
12:36
I'm working.
12:37
There's a local warehouse.
12:39
I was loading trucks.

28 MINS LATER

40:16
I'LL LET YOU GIVE THE DETAILS, BUT AFTER YOU LEFT JAMES DOBSON TO GO BACK AND, I THINK, MINISTER TO ANGIE'S FAMILY,
17:52
What is it about that? And isn't that interesting? Like how is it that one could change their perspective on that at great cost to their position within academia and yet still be unable to say there has to be a creator? Yeah.
18:10
Yeah, well, you know, it takes a lot of courage and conviction to break with the party line.
18:17
And, you know, original thinkers and original thinkers with courage are pretty rare.
18:26
I mean, really.
18:28
And, you know, Hitchens had a pretty much of an attitude that, you know, he didn't give a you know what about what anybody thought, you know, to his credit.
18:39
But, you know, there was a guy, speaking of philosophers, a guy named Mortimer Adler.
18:44
And at one point he was editor of Encyclopedia Britannica.

20 MINS LATER

38:48
We're sticking to the word of God.
25:29
And so we're going to just speak out the truth, whether it is Democrat or Republican.
25:36
Andrew, I love in 1 Samuel 17, the story of David and Goliath.
25:41
And I have to tell you, I mean, I'm really kind of an introvert.
25:44
I got saved when I was 21.
25:46
I was in college.
25:47
And I just knew that most of the guys I knew at UNC Greensboro probably were unsaved.
25:54
But then my professors were so liberal and I kind of came reluctantly into what all we do, but I had to speak up.

17 MINS LATER

43:19
he is super offensive
12:02
Alex suffered injuries himself while he was farming.
12:05
farming.Had quite a few near misses.
12:07
I've had a number of crashes on, on quad bikes and stuff like that, which is, I've been fortunate enough to be able to get up and walk away from.
12:14
Um, had a, uh, changing a tire on a vehicle and had a jack slip from under it and had, nearly had the tractor fall on top of me.
12:21
So just again, lucky that the, uh, the force of the vehicle fall and pushed me back and away rather than the vehicle landing on top of me.
12:29
So when I say that this is, uh, a cause close to my heart and very personal, it, it very much is.
13:33
Does it say something about the industry's attitude as a whole that these figures really aren't improving that quickly?
13:41
I think really and truly on agricultural safety in the UK, we are not really making many meaningful steps forward at the minute.
49:34
This counters all of that.
49:36
Yes, exactly.
49:38
Thanks for addressing this.
49:39
Uh, do you know the Bible says in John 14, uh, that we can have peace with God and peace from God? And guess what? It's free.
49:48
Doesn't cost anything.
49:50
Uh, I love this study by CNN, and, uh, everybody take note.
49:54
Reading God's word alleviates anxiety, loneliness, stress, and it gives us peace.
50:36
That's important, isn't it?
5:40
So give us your take on that.
5:43
Well, you know, thank you for talking about that, as we are now about three months away from the one-year anniversary of Charlie Kirk's assassination.
5:52
I think it played into it a lot.
5:55
In early, early 25, there was a shooting.
5:59
I believe there was one in Tennessee at Covenant Christian School.
6:03
A transgender person shot and killed some students.
6:07
Then there was a church shooting in...
10:58
Please comment on that briefly, and we'll get back to the numbers on the church increase, attendance increase.
44:29
What more can you tell us?
44:31
Well, good morning, thank you for having me.
44:33
Yes, kudos to the Pope for addressing one of the big issues that's on the minds of most people, technology.
44:42
In Genesis 11, there's the story of the Tower of Babel, where people wanted to build a tower all the way to heaven.
44:48
And throughout history, humans have tried to achieve immortality without God, and really to, instead of knowing God, try to be God.
44:59
While AI is a threat and, you know, big tech, I mean, we've seen censorship.
45:04
I think the real larger threat is the idea that technology could be our messiah.
46:09
What would be your advice of keeping God and keeping faith at the center as we all navigate these changes?
57:31
What do you think is driving this among Gen Z to come back to church and come back to Jesus?
57:38
Well, good morning.
57:38
Thanks for having me.
57:39
This is very exciting.
57:41
Yes, all across the nation, Protestant, Catholic, churches of all strata, rural and urban, are experiencing an influx of young people coming to church, and 42% of young adult males say that religion, and by that they mean Christianity, is, quote, very important in their lives.
58:01
So this is a great thing.
58:02
I mean, You know, people are seeking truth.
58:40
How can we walk with faith in our everyday life, even with things that seem unexplainable, seem like things that we can't understand?
8:22
It's not like we're you know it's not like we're welcoming in for example jehovah witnesses uh with their skewed beliefs on on christ uh we really got to stop this infighting within especially within christianity
8:35
yeah well that well said you know it's interesting um as you and i record this show it's the thursday before easter of 2026.
8:46
And this would have been the day that Christ was arrested, subjected to seven really unlawful trials, because in Jewish law in the first century, a man could not be tried after sundown.
9:02
And after sundown, he was bounced around from...
9:05
Caiaphas, Annas, Herod, Pilate, and ultimately beaten by Roman soldiers and crucified.
9:13
But here's the thing, just shortly before all this went down, Jesus prayed, this is found in John 17, and he said, Father, the hour has come.
9:23
I've finished the work you've given me to do.

12 MINS LATER

21:46
And I want, and I'll say it again, I said it earlier, but I want everyone to bring Jesus Christ into their life as their Savior.
72:00
You know, it seems like Christian Americans seem to take our freedoms, our religious freedoms, here for granted when you see everything happening across the world to Christians.
72:11
Well, thank you for having me and thank you for covering this important story.
72:15
And, you know, one of the great things about America is that we've had religious freedom and Christianity has flourished here.
72:22
Christianity has been a blessing to the world.
72:25
And for all of the like the no kings protesters and those that really want Christianity in America suppressed.
72:34
I can warn them, based on the record of history and present news, that when Christianity is not there to hold back moral evil and to hold back aggression and terrorism, things come in like Marxism and jihadism.
72:51
And so for even the non-Christians themselves, that have no interest in Jesus or salvation, they benefit from the presence of Christianity.
74:09
As a Christian here in America, what would your advice be to be able to stop this globally? What do we need to be doing to make sure that our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the world aren't being hurt?
0:49
Here we go.
0:56
Hey, well, listen to this.
0:58
You don't have to read the newspaper, listen to much news to know that our nation has been in the crosshairs of a spiritual battle for a long time.
1:06
And throughout history, certainly throughout our nation's history, at very critical moments, God has raised up leaders, voices of clarity and courage, and you're about to hear one such voice.
1:18
Turning Point USA has engaged hundreds of thousands of people, but young people.
1:25
And I would say in the 2024 presidential election, the person, the individual most responsible for bringing out first-time voters, youth voters.
1:35
He's a great American.

57 MINS LATER

58:31
It does not exist, because at its core, it is a spiritual asymmetrical attack to try to wipe out the thing that comes from Jesus Christ and God directly, which is life and life itself.
