Over the last six months (May 1 – Nov 5, 2026), guests have given numbers that range from about 5 million U.S. jobs to "every job by 2027." Most of them weren't making their own forecasts. They were repeating outside figures, mainly World Economic Forum numbers and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's warning about entry-level white-collar jobs. Only a handful offered estimates of their own.

Figures repeated from others

  • Amodei's "50% of entry-level white-collar jobs" came up again and again:
  • 10–20% unemployment: Rep. Greg Casar on Slate's What Next warned of unemployment "up to 10%… closer to 20%." Zach Lewy on Private Debt Investor framed the question as whether AI makes "10% of the workforce unemployed," and said it certainly won't happen within a year.
  • World Economic Forum numbers on jobs lost vs. created were quoted inconsistently:
  • Hundreds of millions:

The skeptics

Philip Pilkington, a macroeconomist, told Mario Nawfal: "I don't think as many jobs are going to be replaced by AI as people think at all." He doesn't see why AI would destroy more jobs than the internet did. Benjamin Todd on the 80,000 Hours Podcast argued that cheaper, more productive workers could lead companies to hire more people at first.

These quotes come from two searches for specific, forward-looking statements by guests and panelists. They're a sample of the coverage, not a complete count.
